"We are in the middle of the middle of no-where," Rose exaggerated as she sat down on the roots of a tree. The other girls wiped the sweat from their brows and unbuttoned their shirts so only their tank tops were exposed.
The sound of insects buzzing and monsters hissing was really starting to bother most of them but the sound of Rose complaining severely annoyed all of them.
"Technically, we're in the middle of Blacklock forest." Jia corrected her.
Blacklock Forest was the place that most freshman or First Year sorceresses get sent to during their Field Trips for either magical survival training or potion ingredients.
Right now it was the latter.
The girls were assigned to make a fertility potion for crops and one of their main ingredients just happened to be in the forest. This exercise needed patience, team work, cooperation and communication.
Unfortunately, that wasn't something Rose had mastered yet.
Rose glared at her as Fiona snickered lightly, "Who cares about technicalities! I just lost my will to move!"
"I wish you'd lose your will to speak," Clary muttered as she took out her camera.
True, they had been walking for two hours now but that wasn't a reason to give up.
"Do you ever put that camera down?" Kyra asked Clary as the girl started filming them all before turning to film the area around them.
Clary nodded, "Only when I need to use the bathroom."
Rose rolled her eyes, "Of course you do."
"Careful, I heard that the more you roll your eyes, there's a bigger chance they'll forget how to stop and keep rolling forever."Fiona cautioned. Jia, Clary and Kyra burst out laughing at the two.
"Ha, ha, ha," Rose grumbled, "You're very hilarious."
Fiona held up her hands, "Just trying to lighten the mood."
"What exactly are we looking for anyway?"
"The pollen of the White Dragon Orchid," Zoey reminded them. She had taken off her outer shirt and tied it around her waist so that her arms could get some air. "Come on girls, we need to find that orchid or we can't finish our potion."
"And if we can't finish our potion then we can't get a good grade." Jia added.
"Must you remind us of that?"Rose moaned. She slumped in her seat and tried to look miserable but everyone wasn't convinced.
Fiona nodded, "Yes, now come on Rose, you're coming with me." She then moved to pull their rich teammate up and proceeded to pull her down whatever path she needed them to go.
Rose yelped, "Hey! Not so tight, I have delicate skin!"
"I wish she had a delicate attitude, "Kyra muttered as she rolled her eyes.
"Agreed," Jia said as she kneeled down to unlace her shoe laces since they didn't feel tight.
"You coming, Jia?" Clary asked a she switched off her camera and put it into her satchel.
"I'll catch up with you girls in a moment, I just need to tie my shoe laces," Jia answered. The girls nodded and headed after Rose and Fiona.
Jia finished tying her shoe laces when she heard a loud roar. She quickly stood and looked around before she heard a stomp. Without hesitation, she took off in the direction of the sound. She ran for what felt like a two minutes till she stopped behind a huge tree and peeked out from around it.
She was surprised to see five boys in Ashton Knights armors trying to fight a Wildebeest. It was big, had two black horns on its head and one maroon horn on its nose.
Its fur was bright orange, meaning it was a male. There were two blonde boys trying to get the monster's attention while a charcoal haired boy ran up to it and slashed its arm.
The monster hissed and turned to knock him away when another boy with spiky black hair pulled him away in time. The last boy in her sights were taping something on his wrist and glaring at it. He shook his messy black hair and shouted something to the rest of the boys.
Stumbling out from behind it, she saw a sixth boy try to fire an arrow at it and he missed it. The Wildebeest roared and sung it's claws at the boy, making him jump to the side and land on his back. The boy cursed out loud before turning to his side. Jia frowned as she saw him ran a hand over his mouth. It was a habit that she was quick familiar with because only people in her family did that.
"Roy?"Jia asked herself. She squinted slightly before she recognized her cousin," Roy!"
She quickly stepped out of the tree and thought quickly. She had to do something! If she didn't her cousin would be become some monster's lunch.
Jia looked down and scanned the forest floor for any sharp object until she came a across a jagged looking rock.
Without wasting another minute, she used the rock to cut her forearm.
Hissing and grimacing at the pain, she threw the rock away and maneuvered herself till she was behind the Wildebeest.
"Hey! Over here , you great ugly beast!" The monster turned to glare at her before it froze and sniffed the air. Jia raised her bloody wrist up for it to see," See something you like? Come and get it!"
The beast licked it's lips before charging towards her. She turned and ran across the small clearing in front of her till she reached the tree. Jia ran up the tree till she could flip over the monster and land behind it.
With new determination, she ran towards the boys and called out for her cousin. Roy's jaw dropped as he saw Jia sprinting towards him with the monster turning and clawing it' s way after her.
"Roy! Your bow and arrow!"
With a quick nod, he stood and threw his weapons to her. Jia caught it before knotting a bow in. She slide and turned in time to fire and arrow at the monster. It struck home in between the eyes before the monster slumped and fell down in its tracks.
There was a moment of silence before his cousin let out a startled laugh.
