After a simple wash, Jane headed downstairs, grabbed some milk and sheep milk, and spent a few minutes preparing breakfast for Mia, at which point the groggy little Mia began to wake up.
Seeing Shard ready to leave the house, she curiously stood up from the bed, but Shard didn't plan to take her with him:
"Mia, watch the house for me. Your breakfast is in the dining room, wait for me at home like a good girl."
"Mew!"
The cat shook its head and trotted down the stairs, following Shard to the first floor. From the top of the stairs, the cat watched as Shard quickly put on his shoes and hurried out of the warm, cozy house into the early morning light that had just begun to break in the east.
Shard first went to the nearby Feather Quill Street and found Dorothy, who hadn't even gotten out of bed yet.
