Chapter 68 - They're here

'Alpha! We have a problem! Our borders had been breached!' Zayier used the mind link to relay the sudden intrusion to Amber. It was a normal day of patrolling around the territory but a sudden wave of rogue attack happened without them noticing their approach.

Amber, considered one of the strongest alphas, did not expect this development, 'Hold them off, don't let them take a step further in our territory.' She left her study then pushed open Zael's office and gestured with her head that they were going out. 'I'll be sending our pack warriors to help you there right now.'

She looked at Zael and gave him a command, "Inform the elders of the attack and dispatch them to direction of our borders. Tell them to bring enough pack warriors with them. Also contact Elder Zita, she would be in-charge of making sure that the civilians are protected."

"I'm on it," he was already on the mind link and was talking with the elders, each assigning them to a specific direction as per Amber's orders.

After receiving the command, the elders did not waste time and gathered the pack warriors under their command to defend Ceurian. Elder Zita was already at the plaza escorting their pack members towards the refuge they prepared in case of an attack. It was an impenetrable fortress that can protect them from any attack.

Their forces were mobilized at the shortest amount of time, Amber on the other hand was monitoring what was happening when Zayier once again spoke through the mind link. 'Rogues in Lurea woods. They are currently attempting to enter the woods and I think most of their forces are in here.'

'Shred them to pieces, don't let any of those things enter the woods. I'll be there shortly.' Amber left Zael to be the central person in the heart of Ceurian together with Elder Zita. He was to report everything that was happening to her.

Amber shifted into her silver wolf then sped up towards the direction of the Lurea Woods. She was only a few kilometers away from the woods and she could already hear the sound of growls and howls. From what she heard, there were a number of rogues that was attacking them.

As she burst out from the trees, she lunged at the first rogue she spotted and bit on its neck as she violently ripped the enemy apart. She made her way towards the front while killing enemies along the way. Her coat was already matted with blood and its silver color was replaced with the crimson color of rogue blood. Once she reached the entrance to Lurea Woods, she could see her pack warriors defending the place. She also saw Zayier facing off against a large wolf, he had a deep wound on his side with some other small wounds on his body.

'Zayier, distract the enemy,' she prepared herself to attack while waiting for Zayier to create an opening for her. Without any change in his expression, he heeded his alpha's command and lunged to distract the enemy. Both of them exchange attacks and once the enemy had left his neck open, Amber took the chance to attack with her fangs ready to bite the enemy.

The moment that she was about to rip the enemy, the wolf was able to dodge and it took a few steps back away from the both of them. Eirian maneuvered and used the power of her hind legs to push her forward with her claws and swiped towards the enemy.

'It's not a rogue,' she told Zayier through the mind link. 'This one must be one of the wolves who are behind this attack. Subdue him and keep him alive.'

Zayier did not let the wolf get away and instead chase after him, even Eirian did not waste the chance and helped in cornering the wolf. Both of them circled the enemy wolf while growling at him, Amber even released her aura as an alpha to intimidated the wolf but it had little to no effect which means that the wolf was bound to another alpha.

Seeing that there was no effect, Eirian signaled for Zayier. Her gamma attacked once again swiping with his claws to take down the enemy once the wolf was pinned, Eirian walked towards them and snarled at the struggling wolf. "You won't be able to escape from Ceurian." With that, she released a pressure that made Zayier uncomfortable and even the surrounding wolves could not help but shake in fear and submit to the force. The pack members of Ceurian were not that affected but the rogues were not able to escape.

The man below Zayier's paws, was forced to shift back to his human form because of the aura and with that they were able to tie him up. With the help of Amber, the other rogues were all killed except for the other person. During the fight, Zael did not forget to continuously relay what was happening around the other directions where the elders went. After a whole six hours of fighting, all borders of Ceurian were now free of rogues. They did not leave anyone alive and now all they need to do was do some clean-up.

Amber returned to the pack house with their prisoner in tow. He was thrown in the dimly lit prison of the pack. The cell was damp and empty only a lone chair was placed in there where the prisoner was tied. "Squeeze all information you can get from him. Use any method you can to let him talk." She was looking at the man with cold eyes while instructing Zayier.

The man's shoulders started to shake as his laugh started to get loud. "You won't be able to get anything from me. Even if you torture me, I won't tell you anything. Good luck with that, Alpha de Lune." Another string of laughter echoed through the prison cell. It then turned out hysterical and crazy the more he laughed.

"Let's see if you can still laugh after I'm done with you," Zayier stared down at the man with his usually cold expression. Amber brushed off the man's words and left Zayier to handle the matter.

"How's everything?" Amber asked when she saw Zael entering the pack house.

"Our borders are safe for now. I've asked the elders to scout the area around Ceurian to make sure that there were no rogues left. I've also sent five teams to scout the area around the human settlement to make sure that no rogues attacked those areas." He did what he can to make the alpha at ease.

Amber gave him a nod. She was satisfied with Zael's arrangement. "Okay. I'll meet with Elder Zita to pacify the pack members. If there are other matters, just contact me."

With that, the higher ups of Ceurian became busy. The pack members were relieved to know that they were now safe but there was still a small fraction of fear within them. Although Amber had done her duty to assure them that they were now safe, she could understand their lingering fear.

While they were busy fortifying their borders, Zael received an unending number of calls from the other pack who were either probing if they were still okay or just genuinely asking if Ceurian was okay. He would inform the alpha after he sorted them out.

It had been a hectic week while they had been dealing with the constant attack of rogues. Amber was cooped up in the office these few days that when Zayier came to report, she remembered that they had caught someone.

"How was it?" she asked after nodding towards Zayier. Honestly, she was not expecting anything since the man was crazy enough to laugh at her face.

Zayier shook his head, "I got nothing. He was not willing to talk and I have done everything but he remained silent. He would only start laughing and mock us."

"Alright, just leave him be. Focus on the current things at hand right now. They've been a problem for a long time now and yet we can't even figure out who is behind all of this and the reason why they are doing this." The pen in Amber's hand broke into two with its ink dying the paper black.

"I understand. I'll take my leave now." Zayier did not stay any longer because he knew that it was not good to remain in the same place as the alpha while she was not in a good mood.

She stared at the spilled ink in thought before she decided to visit the archives of Ceurian. She might find a clue as to who was targeting Ceurian or the other packs. Amber spent her night time inside the archives until the first ray of sunlight.

'Alpha, where are you?' Zael used the mind link to contact her since she was not in her study.

'Meet me at my office, tell Elder Leonides to come as well. I have some things I need to clarify with him.' Was her only answer before she cut off the link. Scattered on the floor were countless of records she had dug up and there were even some records about vampires.

The beta was confused as to why the alpha was a bit cold. He was about to ask but the link was suddenly gone so he had no other choice but to call the elder. Without thinking much about it, both of them were already inside the alpha's office while they waited.

Bang. The door opened with so much force that both the elder and Zael were startled. Both of their gazes were focused on the alpha who seemed to be in a worse mood than before.

Thud. A stack of bounded documents was carelessly placed on the coffee table which made the guests stiffen as they read the titles printed on them. Elder Leonides could only close his eyes after he saw what those documents were. All of those were familiar and at the same time foreign to him. He did not know how the alpha had found those forgotten records but now that she had seen them, he might as well ready himself for what's to come.

"Explain."
