Chapter 65 - Discarding responsibility

Ceurian pack's conference room was noisy with all the other alpha's talking at the same time. Amber on the other hand was only watching them and waiting for them to stop before she would speak. It took them almost half an hour before the room fell into silence.

"Are you all done?" Amber asked with raised brows at the alphas who finally calmed down. "I thought you're going to continue with your bickering until the end of the day."

"Stop acting all high and mighty, I already told you that this woman is not fit to lead our people into investigating this matter. Look at what had happened, we were still attacked and worse, we do not know who is behind all of this. Women can't be trusted even though they are an alpha." As usual Alpha Ruben was looking at Amber with his usual glare. This time he was more vocal in his expression of dislike towards her.

Amber did not answer and instead stared at the alpha, although they were not facing face to face, she could feel that Alpha Ruben was more determined to embarrass her. "Alpha Ruben, the special unit had been doing all they can to find whoever was behind all of this. Even the people you have sent to be a member of that unit were doing what they can to help so I hope that you won't continue to deny their efforts."

"Denying their efforts? I am not denying their efforts instead I am questioning your qualifications to be the leader of that unit. Yes, they are doing their best but you as the leader, are you doing what you were supposed to do?" he sneered and even smirked. The other alphas knew that he was provoking Alpha Amber but none of them wanted to interrupt.

"Yes, I am doing what I'm supposed to be doing even though some of you do not have time to spare in helping us with the investigation but I won't reprimand you for doing so." Her voice became cold. "I have already informed you that vampires might have a hand on these attacks and with that I have sent the special unit to investigate in this direction and I myself had done my own investigation since the other packs seemed to strangely have no information about them. My beta had compiled and arranged the information which was already sent to each of you. And if you are not satisfied with what I am doing then why not take the special unit and lead it yourself." The room fell into silence and even Alpha Ruben did not have anything to say. He could only glare in contempt and ignore her. The other alphas had nothing to say while they opened the file sent to them. "Now you are remaining silent. If you really think that I am unqualified I'm willing to relinquish my position and don't wait for me to wash my hands off with this matter. If this kind of attitude from the other alphas is what I am getting by doing what I can to help you all, then I can always back out and instead think of the safety of my pack first."

The alphas remained silent after all the words from Alpha de Lune and before any of them could talk, she did not stop and instead proceeded to their major agenda. She has no time to listen to these alphas who only know how to talk.

"If you have any additional information, just let me know. If you knew of any vampires that might be able to help then it is better to let me know before hand and I advise you not to hide any information because if I come to know that any of you had withheld precious information, then you will be facing the consequences." She looked at each of the alphas with warning.

"Are you threatening us Alpha de Lune?" Alpha Ruben was clenching his fist and if he was in front of the alpha, he would should surely marched towards her. "Don't think highly of yourself."

"You don't have to worry Alpha Ruben because I am threatening all of you," she leaned on her chair and rested her head on her palms with a relaxed smile on her face. "And I am not thinking highly of myself because I don't have a reason to do so."

"You!" In anger, Alpha Ruben ended the call and thus disappeared from the screen.

"Do you have any more questions?" she looked at them and waited for anyone to speak but none of them were on the mood to do so. Seeing that nobody wanted to speak, "Alright, you can contact me anytime." After that, one by one, the alphas disappeared from the screen while Amber was left frowning.

"Hey! You, don't think that because Ceurian is the strongest pack, you can do whatever you want. Don't go ordering us around just because you are the alpha of Ceurian. You were just lucky to have that position because if your father had not died then you won't be able to ascent on that position." Alpha Ruben could not hold any longer. The dissatisfaction he had with Amber reached its breaking point. The other alphas tried to stop him from talking but no one was able to do anything because they were only on an online conference.

"If that's what you think, then I'll be disbanding the special unit and let they members of your pack leave. From now on, I will be prioritizing my pack's my safety. If any of you still want to cooperate with us you can personally contact my beta but I will only entertain those who have relevant information. I something happens to your pack then that would be all on you." Amber narrowed her eyes and waited for their reaction. Just like that the conference room was once again filled with noise.

"Huh, see how irresponsible you are," Alpha Ruben sneered.

"If that's what you call it then I am irresponsible just as what you are thinking of now. That's the end of it, goodbye alphas and I pray to the moon goddess of your safety."

She looked at Zayier and motioned for him cut off the connection, "Notify the members that the special unit is now disbanded and that they are free to go. Inform our warriors that the hunt will begin." With those words, Zayier left and after a few hours several shadows from the Ceurian pack disappeared into the darkness.

That night, Xander was not able to sleep and he did not know why. Ever since Amber left, he felt uneasy and that made him sleepless. 'Was this because he had been with Amber almost every day when she was still in Cartnan that when she left, he was already missing her?' He shook his head at that thought and lied on his bed. While looking at the ceiling, he noticed something that was stuck on the corner of his room.

With a frown, he stood up and picked one of the chairs and used it to reach it. He looked at it and was shocked when he saw what it was. He did not hesitate to break the thing as he gritted his teeth. He then left his room and burst inside his sister's room then he looked around.

"Brother, what's happening?" Xerra was surprised when her brother suddenly entered her room. She did not move from her bed and only watched her brother's stiff back while he was looking for something. She was a bit afraid to approach him since he had remained silent ever since he entered the room.

She saw him picked up something and tinkling with it before he turned around to smile at her. "Don't worry you should go to sleep now since its already late." He walked towards her and gently patted her head and he also tucked her in bed.

"Are you sure?" She was still worried because her brother's smile seemed to be forced and she could feel that he was not like his usual self.

"Yes, you don't have to worry. Alright sleep now since you'll be early tomorrow and I'll be sending you to school." Xander smiled even though it was a bit forced but he could not show his angry face to her sister. He did not want to scare her and make her worry. After making sure that his sister was asleep, he left the room and called Carl.

The man rushed to Xander's home and saw the man in the dimly lit living room while he was staring at the small pinhole cameras that were destroyed which was placed on the table. Carl was also left speechless at the appearance of those kind of things inside Xander's home.

"If I did not find those by accident, then I'm afraid that whoever placed these things will continue to violate our privacy." Carl could see how he was so out of it. He must have been shocked to discover these things inside his home. Even him was surprised when Xander suddenly called him in the middle of the night and told him that he found these cameras inside his room and Xerra's room.

"I think you better leave tomorrow and go to your other house. I'll let someone come and do a sweep in here to check if there are still other cameras left just to be sure. I'll send someone to check your other property and make sure that it is safe." Carl sat down beside Xander then patted him on the back. "I'll let them destroy all of these."

Xander maintained his silence because of the thoughts in his mind. 'How long were those cameras in there?' 'Who hid those cameras in there and how were they able to put those cameras inside the house that he was not able to notice it?' He tightly closed his eyes and gritted his teeth.

'Was it because I was living so casually that I did not notice these things?' He mumbled to himself. 'Or is it because I became her mate?' he continued to whisper to himself. He was then brought back to the present when Carl shook him a bit too hard.

"Keep yourself together! I don't want to see you breaking down right now!" Xander was wide eyed while looking at Carl who was frowning at him. "Tsk, if Xerra saw you like this, she might be scared to death."

Xander nodded, "You are right." He took a deep sigh and exercised his head to wake himself up. He picked up the cameras and decided to discard them. "Thank you for coming Carl and for your help as always."

"Why don't you go sleep first. I'm going to make a call then I'll use the guest room." Without a fuss, Xander returned to his room and immediately fell asleep as the fatigue caught up and the adrenaline had subsided. Tomorrow he will need to recharge to think of a way to avoid that stalker. Whoever was stalking him, he will need to find out because he did not want to prolong this harassment any longer.
