Chapter 60 - Talking with a child

Thalia could not refute Carl's words because she already knew that fact but is it wrong for her to at least fight for her feelings. She remained silent while looking at Xander's best friend before she turned around and left the building. She had nothing more to say.

The lounge was left in an awkward silence but it did not matter for Carl as long as he got the message across. He went to take a seat on one of the vacant lounge chairs adjacent to the other guest they have.

"Uhm, by the way I'm Carl Villegas Xander's best friend." Carl faced the man's direction and introduced himself to start a conversation. There were so many things that he wanted to ask the man.

"It's nice to meet you then, just call me Leonides," he curtly answered then he took another sip of his coffee.

The atmosphere became awkward but this did not stop Carl from inquiring about the things he was curios. "That woman, I have met her before but I was not able to talk to her. She told me that Xander was under her protection during the time of his disappearance. I did not even have the time to thank her for taking care of Xander."

"Ah yes and due to some circumstances, we were not able to send him home right away. I apologize for that matter." Leonides inclined his head before he gave the man a warm smile.

"Though I don't understand what happened, still I'm thankful that you were able to save him and brought him back to us," Carl shook his head. They were truly grateful that he was saved. If not for them, they might have been mourning for Xander. "If I may ask, that woman, who is she?"

Leonides chuckled, "She is the young lady of our family, Amber Claire de Lune. An outstanding woman that cannot be compared to any." He did not forget to praise his Alpha while introducing her. It was his way of making this best friend recognize her.

Carl fell silent with his mind moving fast into raking his mind from the names of the rich people around Cartnan but he came up with nothing. "Amber Claire de Lune, I've never heard of that name," He unconsciously said out loud which only made the elder smile.

"That's because, we are people who value our privacy but if you mention that name to a certain group of people, they will immediately recognize her." Elder Leonides had a wide smile on his face while saying those words. There was a strange pride from his heart while telling the man about their Alpha.

Carl tilted his head to the side and stared at the older man in confusion but Leonides could only laugh. After that, their conversation shifted into other things like business and continued while they were waiting for Xander and Amber.

"Are you just going to cling to me like that?" Xander asked with a frown. Ever since Thalia and the others entered and saw them hugging, Amber or rather Amber's wolf did not let go of him.

"Yes," she answered without hesitation and tightened his hold on him. "This is the first time that we will be talking with each other and I wanted to stay with you for as long as I want."

"Then instead of standing here, we can move to the sofa and have a seat then we can talk, like that you don't need to cling to me." Xander was not comfortable with their position and his feet had started to feel numb.

"Alright," Eirian relented but after she let go of him, she did not forget to hold Xander's hands and pulled him towards the sitting area. They sat down and the woman looked at Xander with wide eyes.

Xander was not used to how Amber was looking at him because it was different from the usual way, she looked at him. They were the same and yet distinctively different, like another personality. Xander's lips formed a smile while also looking at this new side of Amber or rather her wolf.

"Eirian, that's your name, right?" Xander spoke after a while. The woman nodded with a smile. She was like a child in his eyes and his habit has kicked in once again. He lifted his hand and ruffled her hair like what he always does to his sister.

"Hey! Stop it! Don't mess with my hair and I'm not a child," she frowned then with a glare in her eyes, she carefully slapped his hand and brushed her hair to fix it.

"You are really different from Amber. She acts more of a mature adult while you on the other hand gives me the feeling of dealing with a child." He gave out a laugh then ruffled her hair for the second time.

"Of course, I am better than her and more fun to be with." She placed her hand on her waist and raised her head. She was proud of the fact that she was better than Amber, well that was according to her view of herself.

Xander laughed, "I'll ask her about that matter."

Eirian was a chatter box. She was speaking at the light's speed but Xander maintained his smile while listening to her talk. She was actually a breath of fresh air for him because he had been busy these past few days. He was nodding on the important parts and would give her a reaction if needed. After getting tired of speaking and Amber had been nagging her so Eirian bid him good bye. "I'm happy to have this chance to talk with you and a little bit of warning to you my dear mate, don't let any woman touch you so casually because alphas are extremely territorial."

Before Xander could react to what she had said, Amber's golden eyes returned to its forest green color, vibrant and clear. Xander controlled his expression and returned to his usually calm look. "You're back."

"Yes, I guess you had a great time talking with Eirian?" Amber tucked her hair behind her ear and leaned on the seat while waiting for the man's answer.

She let Eirian out temporarily so that she could cool down herself since her wolf wanted to talk to him for a long time now. While watching on the side, she was amused at how her wolf was acting. She was actually acting like a child in front of Xander which was very different from her real personality.

"Yes, she had a lot to say so I was not bored." Xander gave a curt nod with the smile still on his face.

"That's good, I'm glad that the both of you are getting along I just hope that you won't be surprised in the future when you actually learn of her true nature." These casual words made Eirian growl on Amber's mind. She observed Xander but there was not much change on his expression.

"I think by this point already, there's nothing that can surprise me any longer." Xander was sure of himself, if werewolves were not surprising enough then just a small thing will not be able to destabilize him.

Hearing those words, Amber could only smile and shook her head. "I hope that you would not forget those words."

Xander frowned for a bit while trying to decipher what she meant by those words but then he just put it on the back of his mind. "By the way what brought you here in Cartnan?"

"I had a brief meeting with Mayor Mykel and decided to come and visit you while I'm still in the area. I did not think that I'll be the one being surprised." Amber narrowed her eyes at Xander then rested her head on her palms while looking at her mate whom she had not seen for so long now.

He was still the same, no matter how she looked at him but for some reason she found him more charming and handsome with his work clothes and the business man vibe around him. It was surprising to see him in a different light and now she wanted even more to see him behind his desk and actually working.

"As I have told you a while ago, she was only a junior from university. She had been following me even when we were still in the university and I paid her no mind since I was focused on my studies. Then she went to another country to pursue her career. I didn't think that she would come back to visit me." This explanation from her mate made Amber warm so she let out a chuckle.

"I think this is the most word that you have ever spoken to me ever since we've known each other and thank you for the explanation. Don't worry as long as she won't bother you, I'll stay out of her way but if she does, then I will not hesitate to step in to give her some advice." Amber was still looking at him intensely without moving an inch while saying those words. Xander knew that Amber was not a person who would go back on her words thus he needed to be careful in the future. "By the way, why are you being so nice to me right now, as far as I can remember you're not this talkative?"

Xander's eyes widened at the sudden question and averted his gaze, "Well, is there a problem if I act like this to you?"

"There's no problem and I'm actually happy to see you taking the initiative to talk to me. That's a good improvement, I like it a lot."
