Mykel suddenly felt chills run down his spine at the low-pitched voice of the Alpha, as if she was threatening him then he realized what he had said, "No! You have misunderstood, the child I was talking about is his sister." He immediately corrected his statement.
Amber's aura receded after hearing his statement, "You're lucky. If you had not clarified your statement then, my wolf would have gone there and ripped you to shreds."
He shivered as a flash of bloody images passed through his mind but after he had recovered, he fixed himself and once again tried to reason out with Amber. "Alpha, please think about it. You cannot take him away from his family since he is not originally a part of our world."
This time it was Amber's turn to fell silent. Mykel had a point, Xander was human thus he had someone in the human world. She could make a compromise after she tells him the real situation he was in, but not now. "I know but I can't let him go for now. I just found him and my wolf can't bear to be apart from him. Tell them to wait because what I need right now is time."
"You don't have much time though, Alpha. You cannot keep him in the dark this long because sooner or later he will know of it, especially because he is within your territory." Mykel's voice became serious and even his expression became stern. Amber did not answer. "I'll help you, but I hope that you can tell him as soon as possible. It is not easy to stop a family from knowing what they wanted to know, especially that one of the engineer's friends has a powerful background."
The call ended with Amber full of thoughts she should think of and Mykel thinking of a way to pacify the family and Mr. Alvarez. Both sides were put in an unprecedented dilemma.
The days passed by slowly as Xander remained at Ceurian to recuperate and finally the time that he can freely roamed around came. As per Amber's promise, he was allowed to roam around the house and go outside with the condition that he won't overdo it and disrupt his recovery.
He struggled for a while to put on some casual clothes composed of a simple gray pull over and gray sweatpants that they had given him before he sighed and fixed his hair in front of the mirror. After making sure that he did not look weird and after some hesitation, finally he opened the door and looked at both sides to check if there were other people but he saw that the hallway was empty. He walked down the stairs and saw that there were no people in the first floor, the surrounding was quiet. Xander took a couple of deep breathes before he finally opened the main door and step outside.
The sunlight was strong that he needed to cover his eyes for a while and let them adjust to the view outside. He was right, seeing it from the window was different from personally experiencing it. The front yard was very wide and he could see a rocky road to the left of the house. Aside from that, the rest of the house was surrounded with grass and tall trees.
"Hello!" a cheery voice greeted him. He turned around and saw a girl with a basket full of flowers standing there looking at him with a smile.
"Hi!" he returned the greeting as cheery as he could. The child then approached him and gave him a bouquet of wild flowers she picked up from the grasslands.
He accepted the flowers with a smile on his face, "Thank you. Where did you get these flowers?"
"I found them beside the lake," she answered while pointing at the direction of the lake.
Xander looked at the direction where her finger was pointing and got curious, "Can you show me the way?"
The girl did not hesitate and nodded in excitement, "Let's go! I have a lot of friends playing there!" She smiled as she held his hand and pulled him towards the lake.
They were yet to reach the lake but they could already hear the lively laughter of the children chasing each other. Xander could not help but smile when he heard the noise. They walked through a pathway of stones and came to a beautiful place that Xander had only seen on photos.
"Oh, Eva, you brought a guest!" one of the women looking after the children was surprised to see that the little girl had brought the Alpha's mate with her. "Come and sit with us." She called with a grin.
"Let's go!" Eva pulled him and led him to where the women were. He awkwardly greeted them but he was then immediately pulled over to sit with them.
They were friendly and very accommodating and they were not bothered that he was new to the place. He enjoyed having a chat with them and it eased the boredom he was about to feel from being cooped up inside that room. Amber was right, it was better to go outside than to stay inside the house.
"How is your shoulder, is it okay already?" one of them asked out of concern. They heard that he was injured due to rogues, thankfully the Alpha came on time to rescue him.
"Oh, according to them, it's healing fine. I just need to avoid using it too much." He has no problem answering them since it was asked out of concern and he could see them being relieved after hearing his response. This kind of reaction, he was not expecting it since they were people he barely knew.
"That is good then, the Alpha must be happy to know that you are doing okay," another one commented with a smile.
Xander could only smile even though he did not know why Amber was being included in their conversation and he was not yet comfortable with hearing them calling her Alpha. It was something he was not used to and the way she told him that she was the person in-charge of this place sounds like they were living in a completely different world.
"By the way what do you think of the Alpha?" several pair of eyes turned to him after they heard the question. Xander thought that he saw their eyes gleaming in anticipation. He blinked a few times to make sure because it must have been his imagination but the moment he opened them once again, the eyes of these aunties were truly looking at him eagerness.
He coughed and avoided their gaze before he answered, "I don't know since I only met her and barely talked with her."
"Oh, is that so. Don't worry you will have more time to get to know her." They smiled while looking at him with meaningful looks. He could not help himself from getting embarrassed because of the way they were looking at him. It was as if they were expecting something unknown from him which made him confused because he did not know what it was.
"I just remembered, do you already have a girlfriend, perhaps?" another unexpected question came from them once again. Xander could feel his ears burning up and turning red at the question but he was still managed to answer them calmly.
"I don't have. I have been focused on work that I don't have time to be indulging in those kinds of things." It was true. He had been focused in his career and in taking care of his sister that he did not have time to look for someone to settle down with. If it comes and he would really fall in love one day, then he'll let it be.
His mind wandered a bit but he was brought back by the giggle and chuckle of the women. He was stumped at their reaction and found himself being confused more than ever in his life. Not even the problems he had encountered while dealing with a project had confused him like this.
"By the way you have told us that you have met our Alpha, so is she beautiful? What do you think?" the person who asked was smiling. The more questions they were asking, the more he felt like they were setting him up with the Alpha. Of course, she was beautiful, no man would ever say that she was ugly once they see her. He might think that anyone who would say such words were blind.
He wanted to remain silent but the expectant gazes aimed at him prevented him from doing so. With a sigh of defeat, he finally answered their curiosity, "Yes, she is beautiful and I have a feeling that she is a woman who won't be like the others I have met before."
Another round of giggling filled the lake which caught the attention of the children as they made their way towards them. "What's funny?" one of them asked in confusion. They wanted to know too, what made the aunties laugh like that.
"Oh, it's nothing, this is a matter that children like you should not mind." One of them pinched the cheek of the child who asked. The child could only frown while touching his cheek but at the sight of the candy being handed to him his frown disappeared in an instant.
The children cheered in joy at the treats while on the other hand, Xander breathed a sigh of relief since their attention was shifted. The aunties noticed that the Alpha's mate had become a little bit uncomfortable so they stopped asking him questions relating to Amber and instead they talked about other matters.
