Chane's P.O.V
Dusk had already come down when I decided to close up the office and head home. I never normally close the office this early, but it's coming along to the Christmas season and it gets dark quickly, furthermore, I haven't checked on Rylie since I brought her to school this morning. I normally tell her to call when she has been dismissed but she never does.
Well maybe once or twice, and that's when I actually force her to call, she always says she doesn't want to take me away from my work, but in all honesty she isn't. I'm more worried about her safety more than anything else, especially with the type of past she has. I don't want her loitering on the streets alone waiting for the public bus, particularly at this time of the year since there are so many robberies and violence occurring in this season.
Yes, I tend to worry about Rylie a lot, it's just a part of me. It's like it has become a habit to just think about her, wonder what she's doing, if she's okay , if she has eaten, I just have a tendency to think about her well-being. Her past touched me in a way nothing else could, it warmed my heart just as much as the thought and sight of her. Even the smell of her warmed my heart.
I was beginning to think I was catching feelings for her faster than ever, there was still Isabelle, but I can't deny the fact that Rylie and I have chemistry more than ever, I'm beginning to think that we have even more chemistry than Isabelle and I.
I stepped down the last stairs to the last floor and went to the door. I activated the alarm and locked the door then walked out into the parking lot, the cool air breeze over my earlobe and my nose and to every inch of my body it could touch.
'Damn, it's time to start pulling out the scarves and mittens and jackets', I thought to myself, shivering at the cold air that was blowing my way.
I quickly walked to my car and climbed inside to get out of the cold. I turned on the car heater and rubbed my hands together, 'Well, the cold started early this year' I said to myself. I waited a full five minutes until I felt properly warm then I decided to start the car.
I reversed out of the driveway and drove up the road.
I was driving for the past fifteen minutes and realized that a white tinted car was making the same turns that I was making ever since I left the office. I decided to switch up my driving to see if the car was really following me. I took a sharp left down at the intersection and the car took the same left turn and sped up a little to catch me.
I took a right and drove up the hill and over the bridge and looked in my rear view mirror and as sure as the night would turn into day, the car followed closely behind me. 'Na man, you better shake this bitch', I said to myself.
I pressed down on my gas pedal after slacking a little so that the person driving wouldn't know what I was up to. My car accelerated and sped along the streets at an alarming speed, the person in the car behind my realized after a while what was going on and sped up too, before giving them a chance to catch up on me, I took a right, then a sudden left and drove up and parked in an alley and waited.
Sure enough, the car sped by the ally not realizing that I had stopped. I sat there in my car confused as to what just happened. Why would someone be following me, at this time, why me?
While thinking, Rylie crossed my mind, someone was following me, I wonder if she's okay. I panicked a little and started my engine and drove at the speed of lightning until I reached my gate. I pressed the button to the gate and it opened and I drove the car in and turned it off and hopped out.
I didn't even bother to put the car in the garage, I just jumped out and closed the door and swiftly walked to the front door. I whipped out my keys and burst open the door.
I looked in the kitchen, no Rylie.
I ran upstairs and looked in the rooms, still no Rylie.
I flung the bathroom door open and I still didn't see any sign on Rylie.
I was running to the library when I passed the theater room and glimpsed Rylie, laying on the floor, bundled up in a couple blankets with a movie going on. I released a breath I didn't know I was holding and walked over to her.
It seems that she had fallen asleep in the middle of her movie. I moved the stray curl that had fallen over face and looked at her peacefully.
She stirred and looked up at me, "Mmm, Chane?"
"I'm here, I'm here", Gesturing her to come into my arms so I could hug her. I was so happy to see that she was okay, she was safe and in one piece. She clambered clumsily into my open arms and I hugged her tightly.
"Chane, you're squeezing me", Rylie said breathlessly. I loosened my grip around her a little and leaned back and allowed her to lean on my chest. "Why is your heart racing?" she asked, looking up at me curiously.
"Because I was rushing to get home, that's all", I replied.
I didn't tell her the full truth because I didn't want her worrying and looking over her shoulders 24/7. She's happy now and I'd like it to stay that way, and whatever creep was trying to trail me tonight, I won't rest until I know who it was, but for now, I'm just gonna sit here and enjoy Rylie's company, she's safe and she's in my arms right now and frankly, I don't care about anything else right now because this is all that matters.
