Chapter 173 - Meaningless doesn’t mean useless

" My ascension is near "

Romulus said to himself, whilst sitting down on the peak of tree, staring at the full mom with a smile on his face, raising what seemed to be a cup filled with wine

" I've gotten rid of all my humane emotions… "

He added as he lowered the cup bringing it close to his mouth, taking a small sip from it, his smile fading as he glared at the moon

" All except for greed of course, every being with an intelligent mind has a singular emotion in common, greed, and I doubt it doesn't apply to gods "

He continued, with the cup a few inches away from his mouth, sighing only to then drink all the wine, proceeding to throw the cup aside

" I've completed every single task in my road to divinity, all that I am missing now is an eclipse, and at that time and period, I must not be interrupted, do you understand me… "

Romulus paused as he tilted his head, turning to his left, only to see a tall red haired man, with eyes of the same color.

The man had on a tight white cloak, with its sleeves of a black color, turning golden around the area of his wrists, to match the pants he wore, pants of a dark color, with lines of gold.

And on the back of his cloak, there was the sign of infinity engraved on it

" Reimen? "

Romulus finished, as the man known as Reimen simply nodded, staring at the moon just like his master was, but unlike him, Reimen was standing, with his arms crossed, matching the serious in his expression

" What name shall I grant myself when I ascend? "

Romulus questioned changing the topic instantly, almost as if the last sentence didn't even matter. Reimen simply blinked, tilting his head for a few seconds before turning to look at the blue haired man, which he could his lord

" Are you perhaps asking me sire? "

Reimen replied, sounding confused and unsure of himself as Romulus simply chuckled

" Who else? "

Romulus replied as he stretched his right arm out, pointing his palm at a shorter tree, applying force to his hand as suddenly a pear flew over to his hand, which he quickly gripped so it wouldn't fall

" Uh—I don't think that should be for me to decide sire, I— "

Reimen stopped, as Romulus took a bite of the Pear only to then glare at the tall man

" I am asking for your opinion on a name, I've never said that I'd use it "

Romulus said, interrupting the red hair man who couldn't help but nod, in his mind the pressure and fear his master radiated was unmatched

" Right of course—well I think, Thyre will fit you sire "

Reimen said, as he turned to his master, whom simply smiled whilst chewing on a piece of the pear

" I like it, it's very—well, you wouldn't understand even if I explained it to you "

Romulus whispered, grunting as he stood up, taking one last bite of the pear only to toss it aside, proceeding to stretch his arms, spreading his kingly clothes

" Sire, what will we do about the children? They will inevitably grow stronger, wouldn't that be a problem to you? "

Reimen questioned as Romulus simply continued to stretch, causing his tensed up muscles to calm themselves

" No, if they were to be a problem they'd be dead, but, they're alive are they not? They pose no threat to me, besides, I need them "

Romulus explained, confusing the red haired man who simply began to think, trying to wrap his mind around what plan his master would have for the children

" What could you need them for? Besides being the hope for the next generation they are practically useless, in my mind they are of no use sire "

Reimen added as he watched the king jump off of the tree, landing elegantly on the ground, only to then begin to walk, being followed by Reimen who did the same, landing just as perfectly behind the man

" Let me ask you a question Reimen. If you were given all the knowledge of the current universe, how would you perceive things? Would you see everything as meaningless or meaningful? "

Romulus replied, confusing his servant, who simply placed his hand underneath his chin, thinking of an answer, I mean, what kind of question was that? The answer was simple

" Well—having the knowledge of everything would mean that you wouldn't be able to learn, every action would then become meaningless, and our lives won't mean anything, i would be most likely be preoccupied thinking about something else that I could never reach, and forget about my meaningless life, so in short; if I knew everything in the universe I'd see all things as unnecessary "

Reimen said, giving the man his most honest and simple answer to the question, which made Romulus chuckle

" That is true. To me, you are a meaningless creature, in my mind this planet is meaningless, but, because everything is meaningless I am able to find meaning in everything that I look at, in turn, making that once meaningless thing, a useful thing. So now I'll ask you the same question you asked me a minute ago "

Romulus explained, as he turned his head toward the red haired man, causing him to tense up, was he suggesting he knew every single detail about the universe? Was such a thing even possible. Of course Reimen held his master in high regard, but, even for him, such a thing…

" What use are a bunch of useless children among an infinite amount of useless things? "

Romulus questioned, causing Reimen to open his eyes wide, realizing what his master meant, only to bow his head as if asking forgiveness for his ignorance

" Forgive me master, i shouldn't have doubted your judgment "

Reimen whispered, keeping his head down, vowing not only for forgiveness but in admiration for his lord, only to be stared at by Romulus who was already thirty feet away from him

" What are you waiting for? Let's go, I need you to escort me to my castle "

Romulus ordered, receiving nothing but a silenced nod, using that as a sign to turn away from the man, only to be closely followed by him seconds later.
