Chapter 8 - Change

The sun has risen for a while now and, of course, Teodor has woken up. He glanced at the empty bedside and sighed. He knew that his father hasn't had slept much for the past week. He wasn't sure what his father had been doing but he knew it must be related to him. He got off the bed and went downstairs to only find a letter sitting on the dining table. His brows furrowed as he read more of the letter.

"Father... what did you do?" The context was simple. It was written that he'd be gone for a month and left enough food in the food storage to last for the time he'd be out. If it was just going out, he wouldn't be as troubled but he had written an encouragement before the closing of the letter.

'Don't give up. I believe in you.' He silently muttered these words in his heart. As sensitive as his father is, he knew that he wasn't the type to poke someone's wound. He knew that his father must've done something. He felt a headache coming in. He headed into the kitchen to make breakfast and clear up his mind.

Outside, by the porch

Teodor sat crossed with his eyes closed. He was once again trying to gather up the lumine into his body.

"I knew it." He felt a change. The difference from all the attempts he had before from today. The lumine aren't rejecting him anymore. It wasn't noticeable at first but he felt it. Little by little, they are being drawn to his body.

He can't help but be distracted. He opened his eyes, stretched out his body, and laid back on the grass. He blocked out the sunlight from his eyes with his arm and started laughing; laughing as if crazy. With the changes to his body, he couldn't lie to himself anymore. He wanted to curse and shout but he didn't. He just laughed. He just wanted to let out the frustration in his heart. He questioned his father and himself and his self-worth.

"Am I worth, father?" He spoke hoarsely. Droplets of water flowed down against his cheeks. "What have you seen in me that you saw was worth? This kindness... it's heavy." He asked knowing he wouldn't be answered. He breathed in strongly and then, released as if he was going to release all the frustration inside his heart.

"Father..." He removed his arm that was blocking his face and with it, reached out the sky with palms open. "...I am going to prove to you, to all of them that what you did; was worth." With his open palm, he quickly closed it as if to grasp something from the sky. Today marks the day, the youth gained determination. A change that led the flow of fate to unravel down into the unknown.
