Chapter 1 - A Tragic Start

"Over there!-"

"Gyack!"

"Everyone, fight back!-"

Two groups of people rush over through the dense trees. Hurried footsteps rumbled and sounds of metal clashing resounded the whole forest. Swathes of grass dyed red in murder as desperate cries ringed.

"Give up. Hand us the baby."

A knight clad in gold walked slowly towards the person who seemed to be the leader of the hunted. With a snarky grin on his face, he slowly swung his sword left and right as if to warm up for the kill.

"Keuk! Why!? Why are you doing this!? Didn't Milady help you when you were lost? Didn't Master offer a helping hand when you were at your lowest. So-"

"Shut up!" The golden knight clamored with his face red with inexplicable anger. "What do you know!? You haven't seen evil. The hypocrisy!" He slowly closed his eyes and anger abated. Then, he opened his eyes with calmness but hid deep hostility within.

"As I said, 'Give up', won't you? You're outnumbered."

"Captain! Don't listen to his- Urgh!" A knight tried to advise but was soon hurt by his opponent due to his distraction.

"Joel! Kukh!" The knight who was called, 'Captain' looked around the battlefield. He knew that they were outnumbered. He knew they were outmatched. Then, he slowly lowered his eyes towards the baby he has been holding. Its eyes closed as if no amount of chaos could wake it up. Determination filled his eyes.

"I'm sorry." He whispered. He raised his head and looked up toward his opponent.

"Giving up?" The golden knight taunted.

"No." The captain replied. He quickly reached for something inside his clothes.

"Is that your last trick? Well, bring it out. Let's see the kind of tricks you have in your sleeve." The golden knight quickened his steps as he inch closer to his target.

The captain soon found what he was searching for the hurriedly threw it towards the enemy. He was quick but the enemy was quicker. With a slash of his sword, the 'weapon' was soon neutralized.

"Is that it? It isn't-" The golden knight taunted again until he realized what he had thrown. "You're crazy! You're going to get us all killed!" Arrogance was lost and despaired soon followed. "Everybody! Retreat."

"You're not going anywhere. Everyone! Block their escape." The captain roared.

The situation reversed. Suddenly, the ground shook and various animal cries can be heard from a distance. Time was ticking down.

"Get out and run past through them! Kill even if you're killed!" The golden knight immediately commanded. They grouped and rushed towards the other group who was blocking their way. Sword clashed and even bodies crashed. Everyone was desperate. Injuries accumulated but even so they still fought. The other side weakened and the golden knight's group soon escaped the encirclement.

"A group of fools in the end." The golden knight muttered. He raised his hand and soon a pale green light glowed. He flickered his raised arm straight and a gust of wind appeared out of nowhere pushing their enemies closer towards the various beast that finally showed up. "Let's go and leave before those beasts finish eating them. We need to report to the Master about what happened." He said as his face paled as if drained.

Looking at the backs of their enemies leaving and then turning his head towards the group of beasts that popped out, a regret anchored down his heart.

"I'm sorry everyone. I dragged you guys with me." The captain apologized.

"You're not at fault captain."

"That's right!"

Some refuted while others nodded quietly in agreement.

"Captain, we've done our best. Hopefully, Those two came out safely."

"You're right." He looked down towards the sleeping baby in his arms and gently placed him down towards a pile of soft grass. He stood up and slowly raised his sword with determination. Facing hundreds of beasts with eyes red as if berserk, he gripped his sword and walked forward. "If we're going to die. 'Least we try dying. Keep him safe." Then, as if a signal was given, both sides ran and clashed.
