Good news and bad news.
The bad news was that the elf gave me some meat and I got food poisoning instantly. I've been out of commission with a fever for the last one and a half days.
The good news is that there was a competent elder healer there who managed to save my life. It truly would have sucked to die in another world of dysentery instead of being murdered by a demon. Feels like I wouldn't have lived my life properly that way.
Anyway, turns out I do NOT have the capacity for magic or mana whatsoever because the meat was from one of those shiny bird things I sent before. This one:

Anyway, because it had mana and I couldn't process mana, I just slumped over and basically almost died, like apparently, I was bleeding from every hole or something.
The elves were very apologetic but also, in their defence, who would've thought I was going to be allergic to magic? Lol.
Anyway, Lady de Dwalo said I should try and recover a little more, and then she can pass me some stuff and I can join them in an expedition to the city. I said I'd pay them back and then Lady de Dwalo laughed and asked me what kind of skills I had, so I told them I used to be a trauma surgeon before I ended up here.
She looked a bit taken aback, like she couldn't understand the term, so I summarised it a little bit by saying that some people get sick or injured and then I cut them open and put them back together.
There were a lot of questions but basically, it was summarised as me being a 'manual' healer instead of being able to use magic. What an exhausting cultural exchange.
Anyway, I also asked if there was anything I could do and she looked kind of thoughtful. Maybe someone needs surgery or some elder has an incurable disease or something no one has been able to cure so she'll want me to look at it because why not, nothing else has worked.
Thanks everyone for the prior tips on crafting and foraging! Maybe I'll be allowed to go off on my own in a few days. The healer looks too nervous to let me out of the house. I think they view me as some kind of useless child who'll just die the moment I set foot out the door, but like. I mean. I survived for a few days on my own out there, right?
Sure, I needed the unicorn because of the boar, but I picked up some berries and caught some fish, so...
Well, I guess we'll see!
