Chapter 35 - How Unlikely!

[ TRIGGER WARNING]

Standing before her was the man whom she had come to loathe over time. It was him, her first love, and he had no idea that she was carrying his unborn child. As their eyes met, a chilling sensation ran down her spine. Memories of their past flooded her mind, reminding her of the times when he had been her pillar of support and comfort during those dark and lonely nights. Despite the hatred she had developed towards him, she couldn't help but feel a sense of longing for the past. Her mind was in turmoil, as she wrestled with the conflicting emotions of resentment and affection he stirred up within her.

"I am sorry, but I need to know why you are at my family estate. Are you following me now? What we had in the past was enjoyable, but I am in love with Amelia. I have always been in love with her, and cheating on her is not an option for me anymore. Also, aren't you married? I understand that I might be irresistible, but you are pregnant, and our situation has changed. I normally wouldn't discriminate, but we need to be responsible now."

"Let me explain, Mr. Nakamaru," Kotori stuttered.

"Please stop obsessing and leave my house immediately!"

As he angrily raised his voice and unleashed a torrent of hurtful words at her, she felt her eyes start to well up with tears. The tears slowly trickled down her cheeks, leaving a trail of sadness and heartbreak in their wake. Despite her attempts to remain strong and composed, the weight of his words and the intensity of his anger proved too much to bear. She felt small and vulnerable in the face of his rage, and the tears were a physical manifestation of the emotional pain she was experiencing.

" How stupid are you?"

What am I even looking to accomplish right now?

" Kyosuke, I am pregnant with your child."

Why can't I stop talking right now?

"I'm still trying to figure out how it happened, despite having gone to the clinic where they confirmed that I was no longer pregnant. It's all so confusing, and I'm struggling to make sense of it all. I didn't know how to tell you, and I was scared that it would ruin your perfect family. That's when your mother stepped in and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. She suggested that Amelia could adopt my child and raise it as her own.

Why won't my mouth shut up?

At first, I was hesitant, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. I knew that my child would be in good hands with Amelia, and that brought me some comfort. So, I agreed to stay here until the time comes, and I'm trying my best to make peace with everything that's happened." She said, her voice trailing off as she slowly looked away.

An eerie hush descended upon the room, drowning out all the noises that were present just moments ago. The ambient hum of the air conditioning, the shuffling of papers, and the occasional coughs and sniffles - all vanished in an instant. The stillness was so profound that it was almost palpable. It felt as if the entire room was holding its breath, waiting for something to happen.

As he stood there with a blank expression on his face, Kotori's words resonated in his mind like a broken record. He couldn't bring himself to believe a single word she uttered as he stared at her bulging belly in disbelief. He was lost in a sea of conflicting emotions, unable to comprehend the fact that the child growing inside her might be his own.

The mere thought of fathering a child with Kotori felt repulsive, causing him to feel a wave of nausea. He turned his head away from her and ran towards the sink, unable to control the urge to vomit. As he bent over the sink, he felt a sense of relief wash over him, but it was short-lived.

The reality of the situation hit him like a ton of bricks, causing him to feel a deep sense of betrayal. He couldn't understand why his family would keep such a significant secret from him. The thought of being deceived by the people he trusted the most made him feel heartbroken and alone. His mind was in turmoil, and he felt like he was drowning in a sea of emotions he couldn't control.

" You lying bitch!"

As he hastily grabbed his jacket and rushed out of the house, his mind was consumed with a mixture of anger and confusion. He couldn't bear the sight of her anymore - the mere thought of her being in his presence made him feel sick. He tried to recall why he had even gone to his parents house, but his mind was clouded with emotions.

Kotori, noticing his distress, grasped his arm tightly and pleaded with him to stay and talk things through. But when he looked at her, he was filled with an overwhelming sense of frustration and resentment. He pushed her away with a force that surprised even him, causing her to stumble backward and lose her balance. She fell against the rail and tumbled down the stairs, leaving him with a sense of regret and guilt that would haunt him for days to come.

"My baby..." She mumbled softly.

As he took measured steps toward the parked vehicle, he couldn't help but glance back at her. He wanted to make sure that she was alright. He turned his head slowly and focused his gaze on her. His eyes scoured her from head to toe, searching for any signs of discomfort or unease. Just as he was about to turn back and continue walking, his eyes caught something odd. Her body was lying on the ground, motionless, like a lifeless statue. A feeling of panic shot through his body as he rushed to her side. He dropped to his knees and examined her carefully. Her eyes were closed, and her breathing was shallow. He realized with a sinking feeling that there was a puddle of blood between her legs.

The sound of the ambulance sirens was deafening, and it echoed throughout the city, causing people to stop and stare. The emergency medical technician (EMT) on board, a highly trained professional, quickly sprang into action. They checked the pulse of the unconscious pregnant woman lying on the stretcher and noticed that she was bleeding profusely. The EMT immediately started administering first aid to the patient, applying pressure to the wound to control the bleeding and administering oxygen to help her breathe. They made sure to keep the woman stable and comfortable, monitoring her vital signs and providing any necessary care until they could reach the hospital.

As the doctor looked up from their clipboard, their gaze met the person standing in front of them. In a calm and professional tone, the physician asked a question that was of utmost importance. "Excuse me, sir. May I confirm if you are the husband of the patient?" The doctor's eyes were focused, and their demeanor was reassuring. They wanted to ensure that the patient had the support they needed and that their loved ones were present and accounted for.

" Yes, that's me!"

"The patient's current condition is critical due to significant blood loss. Regrettably, the fetus is also experiencing placental abruption, an event that amplifies the risk of premature birth and adversely impacts fetal growth. While the likelihood of infant survival following placental abruption is limited, there remains the possibility that the baby may be stillborn." This information has been provided by the attending physician. He went on to explain that Kotori was in grave danger and that time was running out

Without giving it much thought, he signed the documents.

His voice trembling, he made a desperate plea: 'Please, you have to help me save Kotori!' The urgency in his tone was unmistakable, and it was clear that he was deeply concerned about Kotori's well-being. His words were passionate and sincere, and it was evident that he would do anything to save her.

The physician spoke in a calm and reassuring tone, "Rest assured, I will put my utmost effort to provide you with the best possible care. However, I must be honest that medical outcomes can be unpredictable, and I cannot make any promises. Nevertheless, I will do everything in my power to help you through this."

The doctor left and the doors closed behind him.

Suddenly, his phone began ringing. He looked at the caller ID and it was his mother. He stood up and then picked up his phone. " How's father?"

" He's doing just fine. Did you get the paperwork? I told you that he wanted to look through the documents when he woke up."

" Ok...I got stuck in traffic I will stop by the house and I will be on my way there."
