Chapter 1 - A whole new playing field...

The Triton Institute of Academics, a lavish university where only the dirty rich or talented can attend.

The campus is as large as a village and as technologically advanced as Singapore, and at the centre? A massive beautiful building which is known around the world as the "Hub of Education", a place where the most talented teachers come and teach their knowledge to the genius' of tomorrow.

Although it is a high-end advanced campus, there is a district where people more... down to earth visit from time to time.

The district is called Roschire, and although it's more simple, it's not lacking in the style department. Whether it be authentic Italian restaurants or jazz cafes, this small district has got it.

In a cosy, aromatic cafe called "Castaways", sits Ren Ishtar typing away on his laptop with a steaming coffee next to it, accompanied by his female fluffy black cat who lay on his lap, Rena.

This was Ren and Rena's favourite location to study, it gave that feeling that any other place in this advanced institute couldn't, a feeling of home.

Ren finally stopped typing down onto his keyboard and sits back and starts to stroke the head of his fluffy feline companion with one hand, and sip his coffee with the other.

"Ah, finally done that tiresome essay, these damn professors know how to push a student. Like it wasn't enough with the whole book I wrote the last term, now I've got to analyse some stupid poetry that no one gives a damn about... Synecdoche there, oxymoron there, yada yada." Ren complained, talking to the friend on his lap, to which her ears perk up now and then.

Although Ren has a chillaxed and carefree attitude to life, he's not too friendly.

His parents died in an unknown accident that happened while they were on holiday when he was 13, it was a tremendous shock to the psyche of young Ren, his whole life was affected from his studies to his relationship with his friends.

Luckily, his parents had a savings of a suspiciously large amount of cash, around £5,000,000. With this, he's been able to fend off any problems on his own, he loves simple lifestyles although he is quite cold-hearted to most people, if he doesn't know them, it's not his problem.

Because of his prefered lifestyle, even now he still owns a substantial amount, £4,673,000, which is currently in his bank. This is after paying the humongous fees of entering this institute, £100,000.

This was the only truly luxurious thing he has bought throughout his life, even his home before he came to the campus was a 1 bedroom cottage in a remote village next to a forest, he loved the morning commute to school since it was so peaceful.

"I wonder sometimes what my parents would have done with the money if they lived to spend it... such a large amount can't be for nothing, it honestly makes me feel bad that I haven't spent it on something meaningful," he said melancholically while finishing his coffee.

He put the mug down, now finally drained of coffee, and starts to get ready to leave.

He was packing his laptop into his bag and all of a sudden, the earth beneath him started to shake as if it were splitting apart.

'What's going on?' his brows furrowed, trying to keep calm.

The people around him started to freak out and crouch close to the floor to keep themselves grounded as if they were going to fall over, plates and mugs started to fall off counters and tables which added to the fearful scene.

The bright sky outside was replaced by dark clouds threatening rain that did not come, the sky rumbled as Ren instinctively goes to check the front windows, Rena following along, jumping up onto his shoulder once she catches up.

"This... is crazy." He is completely stunned by what he witnesses while gazing at the clouds.

An aura that was akin to the likes of the northern lights descending upon Earth as if a God had come, slowly approaching mortal ground, but instead of varying colours it was simply blue and violet.

"It's kind of beautiful," Ren comments in a helpless tone.

"Earth is too crazy for me, I just want to live a peaceful life." He sighs as the lights surround everything and anything they can.

Consequently, pain, like he had never felt before, was striking him in the centre of his stomach.

It wasn't just him, everyone around him started groaning and screaming in pain, unfortunately, even his cat was suffering as she curled up into a ball with the fur on her back shot straight.

'Rena...' He felt guilty for his cat, yet he was not the one to blame.

He couldn't help it, all owners feel sorrow when their beloved pet is in pain, especially with a bond as strong as theirs.

Then, the pain disappeared and the world around them returned to normal, the earthquake stopped so the cowering people could stand and the sky cleared of both the aura and the clouds, revealing a partially cloudy, sunny sky.

Well, all was normal until this odd interface appeared in front of everyone...

[ Greetings! Mana has finally reached and descended upon Earth! I am the Administrator for planet Earth. Welcome to a whole different playing field... ]

"...Oh god, not like in the novels..." He pleaded at the game-like message in his eyes.

As a guy who enjoys life for what it is, he tended to not read books that involved apocalyptic situations where the main protagonist has a system however this did not mean he had not read one or two.
