As I slip into bed. I close my eyes making a note to myself that if Trey wants weak I'm going to play into his hand. As I slept I dreamt of blood. Puddles of blood. I have had this dream before I usually wake up right after I find my mother. This dream use to cause me to cry out in fear.
Now it's just a reminder. The reminder my parents' killer was never found. Although I would be told it wasn't my fault. It certainly seems that someone was watching me. They knew my pattern and they knew my parents would put up a fight. I woke up only to find myself in a cold sweat. The house was still quiet, so I know I didn't wake up Jax. I use to do that a lot when I was younger. It was so bad that I woke up him with my screams. He use to sleep against my door. I get up to head to the kitchen to get a drink and maybe a slice of pizza. I took a glass down and poured a glass of water.
Just as I went to close the fridge a shirtless Jax stands in front of me.
"Why must you do that!" I shouted.
His face softens "Indiana! Why are you awake!" he said in a demand.
Taking a bite I stare at him. "Jackson, haven't you heard of a midnight snack?"
At the look of his face, I noticed he didn't buy that excuse. "Indiana! The truth! Now!"
I sighed. He only uses my full name when he wants me to take him seriously.
"Jackson, it was just a dream. The case files cause an overlap in my mind." I confessed.
Then I saw that frown cross him. "Jax, I'm totally fine! Just hungry. I'm heading back to bed." I grabbed my glass of water waved goodnight. I felt his eyes on me in the dark.
Friday, I felt the sun start to come up but I was already awake. I couldn't fall back to sleep. So I went the bathroom and splashed cold water onto my face. I did my best to cover up the circles under my eyes. Today I was going to look like the weak little rabbit. I did my normal routine of curling my hair and tying in my satin ribbon. Just as before I stepped out in my blue plaid skirt with blue sweater. The sweater hugged my curves and the skirt showed my silk legs. I stepped in the black heels that I left by my bedroom door. Glancing in the mirror I straighten myself up and grab my red lipstick. Slowly adding color to my lips. Fixing any imperfections and out the door, I went.
Jax was reading the paper as I went to grab a glass of water. "Good morning Indie. Were able to go back to sleep?" he questioned.
I nodded and added, "Well this bunny has to go!"I said hoping Jax bought the lie.
I was still early enough that Dom wasn't even at my door. On my way to school, I ran into Grace. She seemed out of sorts. Just like before I pour the silk honey taste of my voice. I asked her if she was looking for Dom.
She stuttered "No I was actually looking for you!"
I gave her a puzzled look. I spilled my words slowly and let her look into my eyes.
"Well you found me!" I said.
She nodded as I smiled and seem to make her weak.
"I was going to ask you if you wanted to go to the mall after school today." She asked.
With widened eyes " I would have to ask my brother but it does sound fun!" I said with a smile to warm her up.
I glanced past Grace to notice Dom walking towards us.
I flashed that smile that raised his heart rate. "Hello Dom!" I never really got how he was so easily dazed by me.
Smiling back "Hello Indie. Hi ya Grace!" I noticed that Grace was just as happy to see him as he was to see me.
"Grace, Dom I hate to cut our time short but I have to get to class before the bell. " I noticed Trey was watching me.
I waved bye and I walked right past Trey; just like I figured I spilled my books over. Dropping a book inches from his feet. I swooped down to pick up my stuff just to notice him helping me. I straighten myself up and accepted my stuff back.
If that didn't get his attention I would have to step it up. I smiled at him "thank you very much!"
He nodded. I gave him 3 seconds to follow me and question my status. He was behind me after 2. I put my sinful smile away. I let a few pages slip from under my fingers. Causing me to bend down slowly in front of him to pick them up. With that feeling I felt his eyes crawl up my legs to my ass. I was drawing him in. Step 1 completed looking weak and clumsy. Step 2 is a work in progress.
I turn myself around and purposefully bumped into Trey. "Oh my god! I'm so sorry."
He let out a chuckle "Its alright. I should have been watching where I was going instead of getting distracted. I'm Trey Fields. You are that state girl, right?" he questioned.
Ugh! Just like that I'm reminded of Alex. In my sweet but weak voice "Its Indiana." I said.
I never looked into his eyes. I always looked down and blushed and seemed clumsy. All those things he seems to be eating up. Then I looked up, letting him look into my dark eyes. Unlike Jax, my eyes were not honey brown but close to black. Darkness quickly swallowed him as he started to stammer and fuss with his hair. I smiled and I saw a twitch.
As the bell rings I glance around noticing its only him and I in the hallway. "I need to go to class! Goodbye Mr. Fields!" I waved and walked into my class.
My seat was free and I glanced to notice Alex had to save it for me. Class was slow, I even took the joys of playing with Alex's head. When class was finished I was shocked by seeing
Trey standing there with a flower. I started to walk past him even though I knew he was standing there for me. "Hey Indiana! Wait!"He shouted out.
I slid the books down past my breast and glanced at him. "Oh hi Trey! Pretty flower!" I said as I fluttered my lashes at him.
The flower was a pink rose with hints of white in the petals. Again he started to stammer as I looked into his eyes.
He handed me the flower. "Indiana, would you want to hang out sometime?" He asked.
I batted my eyelashes at him and smiled. "Sure. May I have your phone."
He handed it over like it may be the last thing he does.
Just like I did with Dom made sure to add the spyware.
I handed back the phone "Here's my number. Call maybe we can work something out." I said with a wink.
Just as I handed him his phone I took my chances to allow my fingers tips to trace against his skin. Just like Dom it made him weak and speechless. I walked away towards my locker.
Just as I closed my locker Grace came walking up. "Oh hi Grace."
She seemed too pleased to answer me. "Hello Indiana," she said with a smile.
"Heading to lunch. Want to join me? I'm thinking about eating outside," I said with a smile.
I think she forgot to breathe. I started to walk towards the cafeteria. I grabbed a salad and water and walked outside. Grace seemed to do the same. For a girl who wanted to make my life a living hell sure does a lot of things to try to keep me happy. I took her happiness as a great sign to question her about Dom and Trey's friendship. She was very forthcoming, that Trey and Dom grew up together but drifted apart when Dom's dad died.
I batted my eyes and asked, "when did that happen?"
"Around middle school," she frowned as she said this.
"Dom worried more about keeping his mother happy than mess with the trouble Trey and the others were getting into." I noticed we were no longer alone outside.
Trey and his group were standing close to the door when I looked back.
"I think we better head in before we are late," I said and she nodded in agreement.
The day seemed to go just as fast as the first day. I was waiting to see Dom accompany me home. Like the first day and the next day. But he never came. I told Grace that my brother wanted me home but we would go shopping soon. I started walking home. I heard the sound of an engine behind me slowly the tires peeling against the ground.
I pretended to be looking for music only I was turning on the spyware to listen to Trey. "She is perfect!"
"But won't someone notice she's missing?" "We will figure it out when it comes to that." "I heard the state girl lives with just her brother." "Indiana," Trey corrected him. "We will need to practice until we are ready for her."
Just as I turned to look behind me the black jeep sped off. I shook my head and walked into the house. Falling right into Jax. Who always seems to catch me.
