The next night, Asahi decided to go out and explore the area, in the morning he would always only go to school and then go back and repeat the same process over and over again everyday, today he wanted to go outside and explore his new surroundings, he had a feeling that it would be something interesting.
So after remembering the location of the keys in the house from the boy's eyes, he went to go and grab them to go outside, however he was still a little too short to grab the keys which were quite high up from the ground.
He went over to the kitchen and picked up a stool, when he turned around with the stool in hand, he saw his father staring at him from the stairs, he fumbled with the chair from shock and his father rushed over the help him balance, "That was a close one..." Asahi started sweating profusely as he looked at his father staring down at him, "So.. what are you doing now?"
Asahi thought to himself, "How many times is this going to happen!" He tried to smile but only ended up making a crooked smile because he was shaking, it was like he was getting a scolding by his superior in office, "Don't need to be so scared, I'm just asking what you're doing.. hahaha..." The father was surprisingly bad at cheering people up, shockingly even.
Asahi was relieved by this since he knew the intentions behind it, "I was going to go out for a walk." He blatantly said, "But it's so late out right now, and I can't let you go by yourself." Asahi realised that he was probably old enough to walk outside at night with a parent all by themselves, but he still wanted to go by himself, "I want to go by myself." Asahi shook at his own words.
"Fine I'll let you go by yourself, just come back quick, be back before 11." Asahi was glad that his father let him go outside, "Can you help me open the door first?" Asahi realised that he was talking to his father like he was a friend and started to tense up.
He walked out of the door like a piece of wood, "I'll be back." He went past the front gate and started to relax a little, Asahi's father also realised that he had spoken to Asahi like a father and was proud of himself, maybe?
Asahi walked halfway down the street when he looked up and saw dark clouds in the sky, he soon reached the end of the road and turned left, he walked towards a playground where there was a basketball field, he saw a group of elderly people talking with each other at the basketball field while they exercised with loud music in the center.
He walked past them as they discussed among themselves after one of them saw him walking along the road.
"Isn't that boy a bit young to be walking by himself at night?"
"Where?"
"Over there you see him?"
"Oh you're right he does look quite young."
"What is he doing out so late?"
They whisper around each other as Asahi walked by, he wondered if they went there everyday and thought that maybe he could join and talk to them one day, but for now he continued walking down the road.
There were cars parked alongside the road, large trees were grown along the other side, light poles shined light in the darkness, a mosquito flew up to Asahi's ears making a ringing sound, he quickly swung at it with his palm but missed, then the light suddenly went out and he panicked wondering what was happening, he turned around to see light in the sky, he saw something that reminded him of moments he had felt before, a feeling he'd not felt for not too long ago.
The sky was green, the green was spreading to the top of the sky, it peered over the clouds like a reminder, but for what? Asahi couldn't place his hand on it, but he knew that the green was something important to him, it gave him a warm feeling.
Surrounded by darkness it illuminated the sky even more, it was bright green, over the clouds, reflecting in the eyes of those who saw it, but it wouldn't have any meaning more than just being a scenic image, but for Asahi it was something he felt important, something he didn't want to let go, he wanted to stay in the moment forever, he wanted to wait.
But before he regained the urge to wait, he reminded himself that he was going to change his ways, he continued gazing on at the green horizon, it gave him nostalgia and happiness, a joy he'd lost too soon, the bright green sun shone over the sky for him that day, green rays passing around him, he got lost in thought as he gazed at the sky, he saw a star appear, then multiple, he then realised that he shouldn't be seeing the sun so early, it was still midnight.
He knew that something was wrong so he rushed back to his house, the door was still open so he entered hastily, he saw his father asleep on the couch and saw the time, it was morning, he had to go to bed immediately or else he would just find himself waking up without control over his body on the floor, he grabbed the keys from his father's hands and closed the door then rushed back up into his room to go to sleep.
But the green sky was something he would never forget.
