Kate
Today is the day that I arrive at Prince Simon's kingdom. I'm not sure how to feel about this. We have never met. I have never been romantically in love with anyone and now I am marrying a person. My maid Lila has come with me. I'm glad that I can at least bring someone I know to this kingdom. We're in the carriage on the last bit of land before we get to the castle. I am quiet and looking out at the scenery. I am in no way looking forward to this at all.
"My lady." Lila says to me.
"Yes?"
"Are you getting excited about Prince Simon? I heard he was dreamy." I laugh a bit.
"In a way. In another way, I don't want to get married. I hope he likes me." I say.
"He'll love you. What's not to like about you? You have a kind heart." I smile and wait for the ride to be over.
It's about an hour later that we arrive at the castle. I stare up at the castle. It's three times bigger than the place that I grew up in. There are people outside waiting. The carriage pulls up and the door opens. I step outside and see the King. I bow.
"Hello, Princess Kate. My name is King Calum. I can not tell you how happy I am that you have arrived here. Prince Simon is not here at the moment. He is actually doing some errands with his brothers. He'll be back later tonight. You two can get to know each other then." King Calum says with joy.
"I'm glad to finally be able to be here." I smile through the pain of being here. One of the reasons why I don't like being a princess. You have to do stuff like this that you don't want to get. I get shown to my room which is next to Simon's room. The staff say that once we are married we will be in the same room which I'm not entirely excited about. I am free to wander around Simon's wing in the castle. It's huge. There is a royal garden that has a beautiful pond. There is a room full of books and maps. There's another room for dining in. The whole wing seems so big without people. I see portraits of Prince Simon in his royal clothing. The portraits make him seem so intimidating. There's one small portrait of blue flames surrounding him. I heard stories that he possessed powers of flames. I just hoped it wasn't true. I look at the portrait more. This man has long dirty blond hair that is very curly. His eyes look like the bright blue sky. I notice a necklace in the painting that he is wearing. It's a little gold like egg necklace. He gives off power just by his painting.
I continue wandering around the wing more. As I reach my room I see someone coming into the wing. I hear a deep husky voice. I turn around to see Prince Simon.
"Hasn't anyone tried making sure the Princess is taken care of?" Prince Simon asks.
"Y. . . Yes, your highness, but she has been okay without food for the time being." A man stammers. I look over at the old man. He was so nice and kind to me earlier. I rushed over to help him out.
"Your grace, he is speaking the truth. I didn't need any assistance." I say going between the man and Simon.
"Princess Kate." Prince Simons said in shock. "I'm sorry that you had to see me in such a rage. I'll be more myself in a little bit. I just need some alone time. Go back to your room. Supper will be served in a little while."
"But can't we spend a bit of time together?" I ask, trying not to sound so desperate.
"I need to spend time alone. Please leave me be for a while. Thank you." I sigh, returning to my room. I hear the door close next to my room. I hear Simon talking. There's another person in the room, it's a girl.
"Simon!" The girl says.
"Emily, I'm sorry I couldn't come back sooner. You weren't seen at all?"
"No. I've been just waiting patiently here."
"The princess came to the castle today. I am not ready to get married. I don't want to leave you. I know it's forbidden, but I. . ."
"It's your duty to your kingdom to make this alliance. I understand. You don't need to explain. I need to get going now. Rya will be expecting me. Have a good supper." The girl then leaves and I hear Simon sitting down in a chair or something and crying. He really doesn't want to go through with this as much as I don't want to go through this. The girl he truly loves is lucky. I don't think I'll have anyone like that in my life. I feel bad being here now and marrying someone who is in love with someone else. I can try to tell him that I will be able to have my own room and he can have his own room and be with that girl. Afterall, this is just a marriage we both don't want. He certainly doesn't seem to want me.
During supper I told my maid to bring my food to my room. I told her to say "I mean no disrespect, I just want to eat by myself." I was eating when out of nowhere I heard the door open. I look up and see Simon. He is looking rather bored.
"Hello Prince Simon."
"Hello Princess."
"What are you doing here?" I ask, setting my fork down, knowing that this will be a long conversation potentially.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't aware how thin the wall between us is. Did you hear my conversation with Emily?" So that's what her name is. That's a beautiful name.
"Yes. I understand that you two seem to be in love just from that bit that I heard." Simon sighs in defeat. I add, "But I won't come between you two. I never wanted to get in the way. When we marry we can have our own rooms. I won't bother you, promise." There's an awkward pause before Simon speaks.
"Well, I do appreciate your thoughts on that, but our fathers would not like the idea and maybe break the deal. Emily and I might end things soon." Simon says with the fakest smile I've seen from a person. I nod. I know that's not what he wants. I'll do my best to stay out of his way during the time we have together in life.
