Chapter 14 - Wake-up call

[Wind Wolf] [Lv:6]

[Rank: Common]

[HP: 90/90]

[Gale]

[Pounce]

[Bite]

[Blessing of the wind]

[A wolf that has learned to use air for an advantage, beware of it's speed]

Verum did not make eye contact, but rather rolled to the side as the chasing jaguar tried to pounce on him, missed, and came face to face with the 4 wary wolves. It got to it's feet, and seeing the wolves, just stared, the wolves, seeing it as the bigger threat, growled, to which the cat responded with it's own.

Taking advantage of this situation, Verum carefully started stepping backwards, but has not retreated even 5 meters when the fight broke out.

The jaguar's pride as a top predator had not allowed it to back down, and so the wolf closest to it charged at it, barking, and causing the other wolves to attack as well, and as he observed them fight, something struck him. The wolves,

They were not much slower than the jaguar.

In fact, between their speed and their coordination, they only got hit 2 times, while the jaguar on the other hand was bleeding profusely. Deciding to take advantage of the commotion, Verum attacked.

One of the injured wolves had just jumped back after attacking, so he made that one his target, and struck it down with sword strike powered by 'Black fang' killing it immediately, and alerting the others.

The wolves slowed down, wary of this new menace, and the jaguar, taking advantage of this, bit down on one's neck, making it spurt blood, and at the same time, Verum prepared to attack another one, this time with a fire ball, but was suddenly thrown off-balance by a huge gust of wind that had appeared from it's mouth.

The wind lasted 3 seconds, and dealt damage for each, causing him to be more careful, for he still had 3 more enemies to go, as 2 of the wolves were now dead. However, both sides had stopped fighting, and were currently just watching each other. Knowing that he needed to strike first, Verum cast Rock throw towards the jaguar, hoping to kill it, and succeeded.

Now the remaining wolves were just staring at him, so he decided to kill them quickly before fleeing, for a commotion always attracts attention. He went to the one further away first, and ended it by first stabbing and then kicking it's head, the last one was now all that remained, so he dashed at it.

However, as he rushed it, he saw that mana was converging at it's mouth, so he made a split-second decision, and cast a fire ball at it's face. What happened next, was surprising.

It seemed that the fire-element mana excited the wind-element mana that had gathered, and along with the pain of burning, made the wolf lose control of it, causing the mana to go inside, rather than outside the body. The poor wolf's insides got ravaged, and it lay on the ground, dead, with blood gushing out of it's mouth.

[Level up!]

[Level up!]

"Well, that was something, huh? I need to thank these wolves, without them, I wouldn't have been able to level up twice, not to mention, this wind-based skill."

[Gale] [Lv:1]

[Summon a strong wind that will deal small amounts of damage to all inside it's effective area]

[Cost: 20 MP]

[Duration: 3 seconds]

[Cooldown: 10 seconds]

'If I'm correct, then it should also be able to deflect most projectiles, al least those at my level.'

Then realizing that he was still in a danger zone, 'I should head back to the castle now.'

Upon reaching the castle, Verum found that they had gathered enough wood for the mine, so he went and unlocked it.

[Mine] [Lv:1]

[For each person working, +2 stone/hour, +1 Iron ore/day]

[Other drops: Gold, Silver, Coal]

[Upgrade cost: 10000 wood, 5000 stone, 2500 iron]

His eye twitched, seeing the amount of iron required to upgrade the mine made him want to break something, so he just took a deep breath and got 5 of the eight dwarves working in the mine. 'That should get me 50 stone an hour, and 25 iron ore per day, I'll need to smelt that, speaking of which, I haven't seen the smithy yet, I should check it out.'

He turned right, and walked forward. The smithy was made out of stone, and had 3 wooden windows along with a chimney, on the inside, there was a furnace, much bigger than normal, almost thrice the size, and 2 anvils along with hammers of a few different sizes, tongs, gloves, bellows, drawplates, chisels, molds, and nails.

As he looked around, a notification appeared.

[Smithy: 0/5 unit slots occupied]

[Some buildings need Assigned units to work, for example:]

[Metal workers for smithy, guardsmen for watchtowers, farmers for fields, etc]

[Use tokens to assign units]

"Hn, I was wondering who would be working, assign."

[5 Basic unit tokens have been assigned to 'Smithy']

As he watched, 5 flashes of light appeared and faded, leaving behind 4 middle-aged men and one woman. Each of them had callouses on their hands, proof of their work. upon seeing Verum, they bowed their heads and waited, seemingly for their orders.

"Tell me something, all of you can make iron weapons and armor right?" Verum asked, and the people standing in front of him nodded. "Except for that, what else can you do?" He questioned, and the woman answered first.

"My lord, I can make rope out of tree bark and leaves, even though if weak, it is still useful. I also know how to make furniture." To which he nodded and replied, "Ah, A carpenter, very well, anyone else?"

"I have made stone spears and wooden shields before, my lord." one of the men answered.

Nodding again, Verum answered, "For now, I do not need anything from you, so feel free to do do as you please." and saying so, he left.
