The two girls along with the rest of the chosen maids were allowed some minutes to go upstairs. Without wasting time, Melina ran to her room and just before she could open it, she saw Nikita and her friend coming out of it with a scowl on their face. They had changed their uniform and was now wearing a casual gown with two small bags in their hands.
They glared at her so badly that If stares could hurt someone, she would be in the royal infirmary by now...that was if Ms Carlos valued her life enough to take her there.
"You..." Leanna was about to talk but Nikita held her hand to stop her.
"Let's go." She said and the two picked up the small polythene bag where they had packed up all their necessary items and headed for the stairs.
Immediately they left the passage, Melina entered the room like nothing had happened and saw that the room was a bit messy.
No...not a bit...It was messy! Did they purposely mess up the room like this? She had no time to start cleaning and placing things in order. They had only been given a limited time to get themselves prepared. Why were those girls so annoying sometimes?
She walked further into the apartment, pushing aside things that had fallen which no one needed to tell her that it had been pushed or dropped deliberately.
She would only change the outfit she was wearing to her old one and leave here immediately before she ran out of time. At least, she would use the remaining to rest and prepare herself for major work.
She closed the door hastily to avoid any intruder and was about to take off her dress when she realized she wasn't with the old dress. Where did she leave it? She asked herself before she remembered her last encounter.
Oh God...she left it with the Prince. No way...how could she leave her dress with a man?!! She screamed at herself for her lack of responsibility.
She was now moving back and forth in the room.
No! What will she do now?! There was no way she'd go there and wouldn't get caught by someone. Not even that, the place might be guarded and the Prince may not even be there. She sighed. It seemed this week was against her. Nothing went in her favour.
If she dared go downstairs again, still wearing this dress and Ms Carlos saw it, her punishment will be worse than before.
How would she even cope with this? She tried to think of a fast solution. By now, 4 mins was already gone and she just had 10 mins to stay upstairs. Failure to be in the hall after ten minutes was beating.
After a couple of seconds of thinking, she came up with an idea. A few minutes ago, she had seen her fellow maids leave the room...not wearing their uniform. Hopefully, they left the uniform in this compartment and didn't take it with them? She assured herself and hurriedly began searching the whole room for it.
She went to the younger girl's wardrobe to check but it was empty. It was not there.
She decided to search Nikita's wardrobe and discovered that Nikita left hers. Sighing, she picked it up slowly...only to find out it was a bit dirty. She smelt it and noticed that it was still manageable.
Quickly, she changed the dress into Nikita's own and rushed back downstairs. Even though she already prepared her mind for the work to come, she was still not prepared for it. All she needed right now was rest but she knew she couldn't get it.
.
After all the maids had come back to their territories while the unchosen ones had gone back to the former quarters, Ms Carlos took them to the castle grounds.
She explained all their responsibilities to them and assigned a particular job to each. Melina and the young maid whom she met during the selection were picked to take part in the cooking while the other maids will be to decorate and prepare the palace for the occasion the next day.
The two entered the kitchen with foodstuff ready to do what Ms Carlos had ordered them to when the other girl started talking.
"It seems fate was interested in bringing us together for today." The girl whom Melina had been colliding with since spoke looking amused.
"It's just coincidence." Melina, who was not interested in bonding with anyone since she already knew what this maid was trying to do replied.
The girl laughed shortly before answering "You have no chill in you. We've met three times today and you didn't even ask my name. And now you say it's a coincidence."
"Not like you asked for mine." Remarked Melina.
"Who doesn't know Melina in the maid's quarters? And even if I didn't ask your name, at least I showed interest in you. You should do that too."
"I am not interested in people." Melina was busily working and going around the kitchen looking for whatever while the other girl simply just walked calmly around the place admiring and touching things and still discussing with her. It was almost like this was her first time in this place or she was probably new here in the palace.
There was no way Ms Carlos had handled her for years and she was just calmly playing around. Something was a bit off.
"Oh really? People don't interest you...but the prince does...doesn't he?" The girl asked with a smirk on her face that made Melina stop for a while to look at her and when their eyes met, her heart skipped a beat.
"W-what do you mean?"
