Two weeks later...
"My Lord.." A guard came into the luxurious main parlour, bowing his head.
"Speak" King William Lucas commanded.
"The Chieftains are here." The guard spoke.
The king furrowed his eyebrows at the guard's statement. Today was a Tuesday and they didn't have meetings during this day. Why were they here? He wondered what called for the unexpected visit today.
After dismissing the guard for a while, he stood up and made his way to the courtroom. When he entered, he saw that it was just a few of the chieftains and not all of them that showed up. They must have come to convey a message to him then....., he assumed.
When the chieftains noticed him, they immediately stood up and showed their respect through normal pleasantries.
"Why the unexpected visit?" The king asked as he sat on the throne, reserved for him.
"My Lord, it's about Chief Nicholas. His wife has put to birth." It was the eldest among them that spoke this time around. Suddenly, the atmosphere turned relaxed with a bright smile and shocked expression on King William's face.
"A girl or a boy?" He asked to confirm.
"It's a girl, My Lord...it's a girl." Another chieftain was the one to reply. The king immediately stood up from where he sat.
"What are we all still doing here?!" He questioned with excitement. "We need to visit them" he continued and then, turned to the court guard to announce "Inform my wife about the news...tell her we are going to visit our daughter-in-law" he ordered and headed for the carriage with his chieftains following him. After a few minutes, his wife came out with her children all dolled up. She too was excited.
When they got to the Chief's home, they saw the young little girl that had been born. She looked beautiful. After congratulating the couple, the King and Chief Nicholas had a little discussion before they left.
Now in the carriage with only his father and mother, Leon asked "Daddy, who was that baby?" And his father smiled, knowing he would ask the question.
"Leon? Don't worry, you'll find out when you grow older. For now, just know she is a friend okay?" He replied, patting his son's head.
"Okay." little Leon answered.
His wife simply just stayed quiet during the discussion, knowing it was meant to only involve them both for now.
Chief Nicholas was the head Chieftain in the court. According to culture, he was meant to betroth his daughter (the one younger than the Crown Prince) to the Prince, if he had one. But with the constant birthing of boys by his wives, the King had started to lose hope in him. Now, she was pregnant again and it was a girl...which meant that the child had automatically been betrothed to Prince Leon.
