Goddesses, I felt horrible. My whole body was heavy, as though a huge rock had been placed on top of me. I must be feeling the aftereffects of our nurse's healing. I had to accept it, no one was an efficient a healer as my father.
With a groan, I sat up straight. I looked around, confirming that I was indeed in my room. Outside my window, glittering stars enveloped the clear night sky. What time was it? And how long had I been asleep? How did I get here?
Seeing the confusion play out on my face, my mother spoke. "The captain of the Varemont Knights . . . Niko's father, was it? She brought you here to us, saying you were very tired."
I leaned against the headboard, eyes falling to my hands. I realized that I had fresh new clothes on me, as well. "I see, I apologize for the trouble."
"It was nothing like that," she said softly.
