The words kept repeating inside my mind in a flurry compared to storms and hurricanes. It's as if the entire city had closed in on me, the ground wobbling beneath my feet. It took everything in me not to let my thoughts show on my expression, my guts tying into hundreds of knots. Hell, it even felt as though my soul was slowly drifting from my body, evaporating into thin air.
Calm down. It wasn't for certain that he'd figured out my real identity yet. It could merely mean nothing else than another of those "formalities" he spoke of. It could be nothing. I might be panicking over nothing. But if that twinkling in his eyes suggested otherwise . . . I would be done for.
