Minutes later, Ivan and Mel reappeared with steaming hot chicken skewers for each of us. We sat on the ledge, our legs dangling over the river as we ate. Ivan and Mel sensed the positive change on Niko but made no move to comment on it. They were well aware that the issue had been solved. Unlike when we were teenagers, they wouldn't ask about the details as each of us had made a promise not to keep anything from one another. Like many things, that changed. Right now, I knew we weren't close enough to share every single thing that went on in our friendship circle.
Though what this was we were having at the moment, I wouldn't exactly call it as a friendship either. It was merely a civil reunion among former friends who'd had a falling out in a totally unusual way. Something we didn't prefer to talk about—a silent agreement.
