Chapter 33 - Game Over

"Woo! That was some good workout." Elgin cleansed himself with some basic water magic, getting off the frog blood and swamp dirt from his body. Unlike Rose, he was in an especially happy mood after seeing his level rise by two.

He quickly allocated the points he got into the five stats, spreading them equally this time.

He pocketed all of the monster corpses to be sold later on.

"Now.. Let's continue our journey~"

Without taking a long break, he began to delve deep into the swamp. No hesitations at all.

No fear, no fatigue, no nothing. He was at his prime condition after warming up, at that.

"Who the hell is this guy.. Clearly he isn't a total newbie, but there's just- No way that he got to that point without ever having a teacher, right?" Rose was beginning to speculate about all the possibilities.

Such a young child, having the abilities to rival experienced hunters. It was no wonder that she was taken aback. Anyone else would.

Rose Theadis originally aligned Elgin with the stereotypes she harbored on the deteriorating culture of Adventurers in the recent years. However, her curiosity was now beginning to bloom like a splendid flower.

Did this kid really not have a famous teacher of any sort? This kind of talent, it surely required a lot of tenacity and effort to raise and give justice to it, right?

-No way.. he did all of this on his own?

Such was a question that popped up in Rose's mind, and was left unsaid.

The answer to Rose's question was a yes and no. Elgin did have Cecily, but he alone was the reason his progress was this fast and straightforward. His attention was solely placed on the idea of moving forward, so he didn't bother himself with menial tasks and could begin collecting achievements like they were candy.

"..It's not over yet. There were a lot of frogs.. But they aren't necessarily tough opponents. Once he gets to the inner region, that's when he has to forfeit. A newbie wouldn't be able to withstand that kind of trial." Rose bit his thumb nail as she watched the happy-go-lucky boy prancing through the swamp like they were of no hassle to him.

Unfortunately, Rose's expectations would continue to be shattered again and again.

Elgin was not your typical newbie, he was far from it.

The swamp wasn't a tough enough challenge for him. Under his sword, his fighting skills, and his non-depleting stamina, the monsters all fell down in face of his might.

The death count of the pitiful monsters being slaughtered without posing a threat rose above the hundreds, not seeming to come to a stop.

Not even the lizardmen, who was infamous for being difficult to fight due to their advantages when fighting in a swamp could take him down. They did cause him some trouble, but it wasn't to a point where he got severely hurt.

He only needed seconds to recover from taking a hit before he went back into the fray, mercilessly hacking down at the monsters.

The lizardmen were the symbolic opponents when a swamp is mentioned, especially the swamps of Halle. They were the toughest monsters to beat here.

With Elgin beating them like this, it could be interpreted as him conquering the swamp in totality.

Leaving Rose at a loss of words.

"This.. can't be real. Am I dreaming? Who the hell is this kid..?" Rose originally thought that he was just a bit talented, being able to take down the horde of Lapal Frogs.

But then, he moved on to defeat the venomous snakes, slugs- even the innocent bears that never intended to fight Elgin!! They were in the middle of sleeping, but Elgin suddenly broke into their homes and slayed them.

Imagine their shock. A shock of their lives. The final shock, actually. Because they were dead minutes after receiving it.

Anything that was still breathing, once they entered Elgin's line of sight, would be his next target.

Elgin's level of craziness in Rose's eyes was rising exponentially.

"Whew. This sword is actually pretty nice. The grip.. down to the movements. I'm digging this." Elgin smiled after finishing his hunt.

A pile of lizardmen corpses floated in the shallow swamp water.

He swung his sword once in the air to shed some blood off of it before throwing the numerous corpses inside his inventory box like usual.

From where Elgin originally entered, down to where he was standing right now, there was a trail of blood that followed him closely. The blood of all the enemies he struck down and sent to heaven.

The deities who handled afterlife matters would have to be a bit busier today with all the lives Elgin donated and shipped over there.

Elgin did not falter even once.

Every time he was near his comfortable limits during the fight, a sound notification telling him that he had leveled up and his status was restored would pop up, bringing him joy and relief.

His levels kept on rising, albeit not at a very fast pace. He didn't lose hope, for he knew that as long as he kept challenging stronger opponents, his growth won't be stumped just yet.

When the third day arrived, Elgin was officially standing below the tall peaks of Halle. Where the famous flower of Amaradellis was supposed to be located.

It took him two days to reach the bottom of the hill. After a restful night, he was ready to scale the hill after the sun showed up and illuminated his tracks dutifully.

"Let's get this started, shall we?" Elgin rolled up the sleeves of his clothes.
