Elgin's swift attacks continued to be extremely effective against the wolves. In just the span of a minute, he had already taken down three wolves while simultaneously dodging their collective attacks.
Even though they were lower ranked monsters, they still perceived fear like any other creature would when faced with a strong predator. Feeling weak and helpless. Their bravery at the start started to diminish with time.
[1 Silver Wolf successfully killed.]
One.
[1 Silver Wolf successfully killed.]
Two.
[1 Silver Wolf...]
Three and so forth.
It was as easy as cutting down vegetables now. Elgin had his nerves sorted out, and the monsters became nothing but fodder to him and his blade.
The wolves' brazen attacks began to slow down as they backed up for safety, huddling against each other and no longer daring to pounce at Elgin.
However, this was another one of their mistakes. The current Elgin had already defeated half of their pack, and the remaining wolves were scared out of their minds from Elgin's ruthless subjugation.
Elgin, too, was not feeling tired from the fight. The Player system had healed him again and again after leveling up from the experience points the wolves gave.
The wolves were helpless even though they outnumbered Elgin. It was one against seventeen. Even worse, the human started off as Level 1, and yet here he was, slaughtering all of them.
Crazy.
'There was a word that the Players used to say when this scenario happened.. Right, what was it again?'
Elgin continued to hack and slice the enemies down while thinking about the word.
"Is this what you call farming?" With a flashy last move, a bright smile formed on Elgin's face.
Elgin's first farming session was finally done.
The numerous wolf corpses was a hideous sight to behold, not to mention the pungent smell it emanated.
Elgin also got splashed with some of the sticky blood and felt disgusted. He turned around and wanted to search for a place to clean himself with, but Cecily quickly stopped him.
[Bring back their corpses and drop them at the butcher, the wolves can be sold as materials. You're also better off registering as a member in the Adventurer's Guild for profit and privileges while travelling!] Cecily did not allow Elgin to leave the wolves in that state.
Although Elgin was not entirely on board with the idea of dumping the corpses into his item box, he still did it anyway.
The wolves' carcasses were now cleaned up, and all that's left was a young man who didn't know what to do.
Elgin got to level six just by killing the wolves.
The experience cap jumped up exponentially.
Level 1 only took 1000 points to get over, but his current level needed 15000 points to pass.
He could only imagine to what extent the experience cap would grow to later on.
More importantly, he was confused by one thing.
He was sure that he had never fought before.
He had gone through years upon years of experience, but this was his first time actually engaging in a fight.
'Why was it so easy?'
It might come off as condescending, but he truly felt that way. The fight went on like a breeze. The first slash took some courage for him to do, but after that, it was a piece of cake.
"Is this also a thanks to the system's benefits?" Elgin wondered.
[..Honestly, I don't think that's the case. It's not the system, remember? The others who came here with you didn't show signs of possessing strength or whatsoever. I think.. This is your soul's gift, not anything else.]
"No, no, no, that can't be. I was weak as hell as an alchemist. I guess it's the Goddess' doing again.. This must be a special perk she gave to me."
[The Goddess only forged a body, and made it a carbon copy of what a Player's starting stats are. Also, you're not even opening up your limiter. The power she gave, all of it is stored behind the limiter. This means that the fight was entirely done by you and your gifts.] Cecily rebutted.
[Why do you have such a low confidence?] With a concerned look, she floated around Elgin and questioned.
"..Ha. Do you know how much I tried to surpass the lowest of the low before? I couldn't do anything. I was powerless no matter how much I tried. There was no point. And now, you're suddenly telling me that I'm gifted.. That doesn't make any sense."
[That's the answer you're looking for, dummy! Your previous body was limited by this world's system. You were meant to stay as an alchemist in Ulya in the past, which is why your body couldn't surpass a set limit. But now that you have transferred over to this body, that limit is now gone. You are free to do whatever you want now. The powers the Goddess gave you is separate from your own.]
"So.."
[I'm telling you that you've been hiding a great gift all this time! It's just that your body wasn't allowed to polish and unleash it before. Elgin, I'm almost one hundred percent sure that the Goddess didn't expect you to be this special on your own. Not only are you an anomaly she was able to work with, you are uniquely talented!]
Cecily observed this young man's moves and realized this fact.
The man was able to use mana vision earlier without her explaining anything. She only mentioned the concept of it, leaving no details at all. But he managed to do it within a short time.
She was a faerie- beings that were created using magic. She was deeply connected with Goddess Litia. Being a high-ranked spirit, she was sensitive to the magic of others.
Elgin's core was stable. Stable beyond anyone's imagination.
Elgin might've thought that he didn't use any mana earlier, but Ceciiy knew that it wasn't the case.
He didn't use it for offense, but the mana inside him continued to thrive and support his bodily functions. Elgin never checked his status, meaning that he didn't realize his mana was flowing out and helping him fight.
Body strengthening. There were many ways and skills to do that, but what Elgin did was one of the more advanced means.
Especially at Elgin's level.
He let his mana supply itself into his entire body. Controlling it to improve his stats and land heavier blows. Evade attacks more skillfully. Be vigilant towards everything.
His way of doing it was so intricate that Cecily was astonished. There was not a single part of his body that wasn't equally aided.
All of this happened without him being conscious of it. This complex process was maintained throughout the fight without faltering even once.
'His mana control is absurdly good.' Cecily thought, not saying it out loud.
Magic aptitude isn't actually connected to the body, but rather the soul.
The mana core that stores and regulates mana throughout the body is often misunderstood to be part of your physical constitution, but in truth, it's a fragment of one's soul.
This is why mana diseases are so deadly and can't be cured unless you go through a rigorous process that involves lots and lots of resources and effort.
The moment your core gets affected, it means that your soul is already damaged. It would be extremely hard to return it to normal.
Elgin's argument of the perks coming from his fabricated body was easily knocked down since Cecily knew this information.
The body was nothing but a vassal. Originally, one of the reasons the Goddess placed great powers behind the limiter because she was scared that Elgin might not be able to survive on his own in face of Yggdrasil if it's just with his own talents.
However, now..
Cecily watched as Elgin continued to hang his head low. This guy really didn't know anything outside of his little potion store.
He was trapped in there for so long that his confidence plunged down to the ground.
It made her sympathize with him quite a bit, and at the same time bringing up a desire to lift his spirits up to never think of such foolish things again.
