"Change of plans. We are heading for Stonemeadow today."
Joan was sharpening her sword on a grindstone.
"What about him?"
Gawain was leaning on the tree trunk beside the unconscious kid named Chris, who had passed out last night due to immense shock.
"I have sent a letter to the mayor of that town. He is expecting us."
"A letter?"
Small sparks flew out from between the sword and the stone.
"I have a pigeon."
Celia was roasting some of the meat for breakfast.
"We will deliver him to the officials for questioning. After that, he will be transferred to a state-operated orphanage."
He turned looked at his face. His mouth was slowly twitching, and his wince told them that he was in a lot of pain.
"Will he be fine?"
"If he turns out to be a good learner, a noble house might adopt him. But, given that his trauma is very deeply rooted in his mind, that might not be the case."
She brought the blade closer to her eyes.
"Even."
The damage had been rectified.
