"Thank you, Auntie Zhang," Avery Graham nodded, and then Bernard Taylor said a few words to the driver and came over to Avery's side. Avery said to Auntie Zhang, "We should head up now; my parents must be getting anxious."
"Yeah, go ahead, go ahead," Auntie Zhang nodded her head.
After the two left, the Residential Area burst into conversation. They were now deeply skeptical of Old Mrs. Wu's words, about how Avery was the one being abandoned. It was clear to anyone with eyes that Avery had climbed up the social ladder, not that she was dumped; if anything, it was she who dumped someone else.
Hand in hand, Avery felt that the usually composed Bernard Taylor actually had sweaty palms. She turned her head and asked, "Are you nervous, Bernard?"
"Yeah, a little," Bernard admitted with some unease. Instead of nervousness, it was more accurate to say that he was worried whether Avery's father and mother would feel secure entrusting Avery to him.
