At half past midnight, Simon Carrington sent his mother out, and Carolline Ruiz raised her head and gave a nod to them as a greeting without holding any grudges. Simon smiled back, but the middle-aged woman snorted at Carolline.
Carolline didn't mind, Simon just sighed softly. When the two took the elevator, Simon talked to his mother, but she didn't seem to care.
After Simon and his mother left, Carolline checked the wards. The patients and their families were basically resting, and no one had any needs. She returned to her desk and started reading a novel on her phone.
Not long after, she heard the sound of the elevator arriving. She thought Simon had come back, so she picked up the water glass nearby and went to the inner room to fill it up for a drink.
She took her time and thought that Simon should have returned to the ward by now. She walked out, only to see a drunken man with a red face lying on her desk. His eyes were bloodshot, and he stared at her.
