By the time they finally returned to the Ruiz Family's home after leisurely spending time at the Hawkins Family's place, it was already nine o'clock at night.
Elena Duncan was sitting in the living room, yawning and waiting for Axel. When she heard that Axel had come back, she was overjoyed. Axel felt the same way. Even though he was reluctant to part with his great-grandmother, grandparents who treated him so well, he still missed Elena. He had bought her a beautiful sun hat and thought he would have to wait until school started to give it to her. But, to his delight, Elena was visiting her maternal grandparents.
So, no matter how much Axel's great-grandmother and the others tried to keep him, he insisted on going back to his maternal grandparents' house. Once the old lady learned about the real reason, she asked Carolline Ruiz if Elena could come to their house to play, saying that there is plenty of room for her to stay.
