For nearly half an hour, Avery Graham couldn't manage to hail a single taxi. Some were taken by quicker passengers, while others had weird drivers, who used bizarre excuses to refuse her. Still, others seemed to be occupied but had forgotten to change their sign to off-duty.
Ten more minutes passed, and Avery was just about to give up when a black car pulled up in front of her. The window rolled down, revealing Bernard Taylor's face.
Seeing him, Avery felt even more frustrated and turned to leave. Bernard, however, stopped her, "You probably won't get a cab at this time. Do you want to be late for your dinner with Carolline Ruiz?"
Avery stopped in her tracks, not because she doubted her ability to hail a cab, but because she was wondering how Bernard knew about her date with Carolline. Had he gone crazy?
"How do you know about my appointment with Carolline?" Avery turned around, glaring at Bernard, wondering just how twisted he was.
