Chapter 1 - Light Strikes Thrice

One winter night, in the middle of the ocean, a roaring blizzard took place, flashes filling the snow abundant air.

In the middle of this terrible blizzard, were three warships, resembling those from the 1500s. The ships were in the middle of a thunderous battle, two against one.

The two allying ships bore the symbol of two dragons standing on their hind legs with their arms and claws reaching out for the other, instead of scales these 2 dragons bore feathers from head to tail.

These pair of ships surrounded the third lone ship, bombarding it with cannons. The lone ship bore no crest or flag, only black sails and a winged woman below their bowsprit attached to their bow.

The only sign of a significant identification were the large letters on the warship's side, which read:

"Crownless Angel"

Cannons fired, deafening booms and flashes from the gunpowder filled the snow-rich air, vibrating and reflecting off each snowflake, illuminating the night with blurry shimmers, the lone ship's stability was starting to waver; the crownless angel would be defeated if they didn't take care of the two ships in time.

Inside the angel, there was a young boy he was 4 feet 2 inches tall, he had short brown hair, a white tunic with short light brown trousers, and a satchel above his waist, he was running around trying his best to avoid skirmishes from stray intruders that arrived from above deck, he was a stowaway that had paid one of the angel's crew to help hide. His destination was a continent that, by his knowledge; was a mystical land filled with wonders and opportunities.

'Oh mother, what did I do to be dragged in the middle of this! That sailor told me that I'd arrive without any troubles, are there pirates attacking?!'

Little to the boy's knowledge, the vessel he was currently on was a famous pirate crew notorious for their last looting involving a huge highly guarded frigate containing many treasures, but the crew only took one mysterious item. To the public, it seemed as if the pirates had invaded the frigate and fought it's guard ships to show their strength.

---

While the boy was evading skirmishes and the pirates were defending the ship, a certain man on the starboard feathered dragon warship was overseeing the battle on the aft castle seemingly unaffected by the raging blizzard.

"Admiral!" a man cried out

"We're slowly pushing forward, at this rate we'll be able to liberate the ship and its contents before it sinks!"

After all this time, they were aiming their cannons on the higher decks to prevent the ship from sinking and to destroy the opposing cannons, their aim was obviously to retrieve the mysterious item after all.

"Good, keep pushing them don't let anyone live! We cannot afford to lose that package and spread knowledge of it's existence!"

It was at this moment he noticed that winds were picking up harder than before, clouds growing denser overhead.

'We need to recover this that package quick, I have a bad feeling about what's to come if we stay too long'

---

Lightning struck more frequently than before, as more people flooded into the Crownless Angel.

"I hope this door stays shut" The boy had made his way into a storage room and managed to bar the door by dragging a large box in front of it blocking it from opening due to the small space caused by the numerous crates

"These are a lot of crates I wonder what they have, maybe I can snatch a couple valuables to sell, if I find any." he made his way through the numerous crates until he stumbled upon a small wooden box reinforced with gold frames.

"Perfect, I can sell whatever this is," He said as he opened the box revealing a small purple crystalline shard.

"ah just nice looking stone, I didn't think they'd keep something like this in such a fancy box but it should still sell for a decent amount." He closed the box putting it in his satchel.

*BOOM* *Crackle* The sound of crashing and thunder came from above, It hit the deck destroying a weakened pillar and causing the deck to fall in on itself leaving a gaping hole 4 meters in diameter.

"This is getting crazy, at this rate, I'm going to be killed or be enslaved if I don't somehow get off this ship!" He already gave up on the idea that the Crownless Angel's crew would somehow get out of this situation unsunk or him being able to stow away onto the other ships.

It was at this moment he heard the door that he barred burst open, the invaders had used an explosive to make an opening.

'Shit!' The boy hid behind one of the large boxes that filled the room.

Four men came through the opening as the man leading them said

"Find the package!" He ordered as he relayed its description to them

The boy was trembling, the breachers were still far enough to be out of view, but sooner or later they would find him if he stayed, if he's found he wouldn't be able to outrun those adults.

Luckily for him he was small and was able to fit in small spaces, effectively hiding and maneuvering around the men. After a bit of maneuvering, he finally reached the hole that the breachers had left behind.

'alright, I got an idea, once I go through that hole, I'll rush past everyone while they're distracted and make my getaway' as to where the boy would go, he didn't think about it, all he had on his mind right now was getting out of the place he was currently in.

The boy rushed out of the entry breach, upon that he saw over two dozen people fighting tooth and nail with various weapons. The boy paused for a second in fear, before rushing through the crowd.

'Please don't get hit, Please don't get hit.' The boy was blindly rushing through the crowd when suddenly he tripped and fell on his face, most of the heavier contents of his satchel being thrown out, including the box.

When the boy recovered from the pain after a second, he found that he tripped over a fallen plank, there was snow falling on his head, and he was in the middle of an empty part of the battlefield.

He was right underneath the hole caused by the thunderbolt, he looked over to the things that dropped out of his bag and saw that the box had been thrown with its hinges broken off.

The gem laid bare, underneath a large stack of barrels.

One of the crewmates from the feathered dragons saw the boy fall, he had pale skin but a large muscular body, his face was full of scars along with his forearms, due to his uniform, the scars were partially covered by his sleeves, but it was likely that he had scars all over his body signifying all the battles he had lived through.

He carried a sword, he swiftly killed the opponent he was facing and made his approach to the boy brandishing his sword. He displayed a mocking grin on his face as if he was making fun of the boy and his bloody nose that the boy seemed to be unaware of. The feathered dragons had been ordered to leave no one alive so he was brandishing his swords with ill intent.

The boy saw the man getting closer, 'Oh no, no no, please no.' The boy knew that the man was going to kill him, but that was because he thought he was a pirate, nevertheless, the man was still going to kill him either way. The boy backed up on the floor quickly grabbing the stone and attempting to hide it in his satchel.

"Please don't kill me, I don't belong to this crew, I'm just a stowaway!" The boy said as he found his back being blocked by the mountain of barrels covered in snow and broken planks.

The man had seen the boy put something in his satchel, but he didn't know what, still, seeing that the boy hurriedly hid the item was all he needed to know the value of the item, finding that the boy was lying he laughed and said, "Kid are you dumb? Give me that thing and maybe, I won't kill you for being so dishonest towards me." The man was lying, he was going to kill the boy anyway but he just wanted to slash the boy's arms while he was reaching in his bag as punishment for lying.

"A-alright I'll bring it out just don't touch me"

As the boy reached into his bag bringing out the stone he looked back, to see that the man had raised his sword and was starting to bring it down on him.

At the sight of that, the boy instantly turned pale and raised his arms to block instinctively. His arms weren't going to stop that thing but he didn't know what else he could do.

At this moment a huge thunderbolt descended from the densest part of the clouds above them, it was heading right through the hole in the deck.

As for its trajectory? Straight towards the boy, specifically the item in his clenched hand.

The purple stone.

Right as the bolt hit the boy and the stone, a spark coming from the impact hit the barrels behind them.

It was gunpowder! A mountain of it!

---

From the starboard feathered dragon ship, the admiral was still on the aft castle ordering the crew still on board to slowly abandon firing the cannons and start boarding.

It was then that he saw a flash at the corner of his eye, it was another bolt of lightning he looked over instantly, but unexpectedly there was another flash that instantly came after the first one, it was purple. The Admiral was quick enough to look directly at it, as he saw what came a second after.

A third flash, even bigger and brighter than the first and second. It covered the entirety of the forward part of the ship as pieces of wood and fire came flying past. The shockwave came faster than the Admiral could even react to the lightning bolt, both of the feathered dragon ships had their hulls ripped apart from the blast, holes almost big enough to spread from the top deck to the ocean, nearly fatally downing the ships. Fortunately for the feathered dragons, although the holes were massive, the blast only affected the upper bodies and sides of their ships.

Everyone including the admiral was thrown to the ground by the shockwave, when he got up to see the state of his ships, his face went grim. Not only had his ships received massive amounts of damage unfit for the blizzard night, he saw that more than half of the Crownless Angel was gone.

The blast from the gunpowder had taken the entirety of the ship's forward side and left only a small part of the aft main deck and castle. The last of the Crownless angel was sinking fast and so were its contents.
