Chapter 3 - Oh shit, game skill's?

The next day was a whirlwind for Cain. Vera insisted on teaching him how to use a sword, much to his disagreement. "Why do I need to learn how to use a sword? Doesn't being a hero mean that you can do all sorts of magic?" He asks as he fails to block another swipe by Vera.

"Yes and no." She says swinging her sword down in an arch. "Yes, you will get magic and probably some strong powers, but that doesn't mean you can keep using that as your main source of an attack. The fastest a person has been able to cast magic is 5 seconds. That's enough time to have your head cut in battle."

Cain fell to the ground and clutched his chest in pain. In the corner of his eye, he saw a floating game notification. "H-hey, do you know what this thing is?" He asks, pointing at it.

Vera stood in thought for a few seconds before grabbing a book out of the bag at her feet. "No, but the otherworldly manual might give me an idea." She flips a few pages into the book and shows him a page of the book. "Is this what it looks like?"

Cain stares at the book for a few seconds and looks back over at her. "You're kidding me, right? Do you mean to tell me that your otherworldly manual is actually just manga?"

Vera cocks her head to the side and looks down at the page. On the page stood your typical isekai protagonist with a game window in front of them. "You mean that the name of this book is manga?" She asks questioningly as she reads the title. "But it says here that the name is..." She takes in a deep breath before starting on the title. "Reincarnated in another world with a skill that lets me go back in time but only when I die, I get 100,000,000 gold coins, and 20 overpowered skills."

Cain looks at the book and instantly starts dying of laughter. "We're doomed, if you actually formulated a plan off of that book then I give up." He smiles and grabs the book before throwing it into a fire, much to Vera's dismay.

Cain picks himself off of the ground and pulls the screen in front of his face before remarking, "I doubt my life will be anything like that book. I mean if it was then I wouldn't have a hole in my chest."

The screen in his face did remind him a lot of those types of manga though. While the blue notification screen itself did not have any use to him, what I did say made him happy that he did not waste his time learning a useless skill.

"Well, that's useful." He remarked and he picked up his sword and swung again. While the sword did not feel right in his hands he felt as if he knew exactly what he was doing wrong and how to better himself.

"How does gaining a skill feel?" Faye asks, walking up behind him. "Before the downfall of the heroes they used to say that it felt as if you gained knowledge instead of being able to instantly do it." Cain smiled and dropped the sword. "You took the words out of my mouth." He says as he begins to browse his stats and skills.

"Ohh?" He says noticing his last skill. "I think I found out the skill the goddess gave me." He picks himself off the ground before looking at the 2 girls. "It's called Prey shapeshifting, do you guys know anything about this skill?"

The 2 girls shake their heads no. "Would it be possible to demonstrate for us?" Faye questions, looking a tad bit excited. Cain just shakes his head. "Says I need to hunt, kill and ingest the animal before I can activate the skill. So that means we'll need to go hunting some time soon."

Faye nods her head and points toward a door on the opposite of the courtyard. "Tonight we'll go out and hunt a deer, not only will that give us food for tonight it'll also give you a chance to activate your skill." Cain nods his head and walks, escaping his not yet finished sword training.

Cain decided to walk towards the body pile, he has started to make a habit of looking through the otherworlders things and was happy that he did. He found a shopping bag that was full of 2 liters of barely expired pop, a few suckers that he imminently pocketed, and a new black jacket with fluff around the neck and hoodie.

Once he put on the jacket he finally realized just how much he was shaking from fear and not from the cold. Standing on the bodies of your kind was a new experience, and while he tried to act calm and collected he was truly scared for his safety.

After a few seconds of staring at the bodies did he decide to leave. He turned around and came face to face with the pink elf girl, which promptly caused him to scream, falling onto the bodies below him. This paired with the fact he was already frightened, caused him to do a mix of a cry and a screech before jumping onto solid ground.

"D-don't do that." He stammered looking back at the girl who was smiling at his misfortune. "S-sorry." She says nervously. "It's not everyday you see somebody d-doing some casual grave robbing. A-anyway, I'm Diana... Feya told me to come to grab you. she said that she had located a group of dear."

Cain picks himself off the ground again, nodding thanks to the girl before heading back to the courtyard.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the other side of the country, a man is forced to kneel at the bottom of a throne. "So, do I need to ask you why you are kneeling at my feet, or do you already know the reason?" A boy who looks no older than 10 asks the man, with a face full of boredom.

"You tyrant!" the man yells at the kid. "Ohh, that is a good name, Veric from now on will refer to me as Tyrant." Tyrant turns his head to a man wearing a large set of black armor, a blue cape around his shoulders, and large demonic horns on his helmet.

"Yes, young Tyrant," Veric Says in a deep voice. "Anywho!" Tyrant looks down at the man. "Selling out secrets are we, I think you know the punishment for that?" He says, giving the man an innocent smile before hopping off of the throne. "But I'm a nice guy, I'll let you come to me."

The man gives him an evil glare. "You stupid kid, now that your not hiding behind your bodyguard your done for." And with that, he charged at Tyrant, fist raised ready to strike.

Tyrant looks at the man and sighs before moving his hand in a cutting motion, easily cutting off the man's head. "Huh..." Tyrant says in disgust before turning to the black knight. "Veric, head to Westler town and exterminate anybody who has our plans." Veric nods and steps away from the throne, crushing the body under his feet as he moves to the exit.
