Chapter 10 - A much needed thought

"I am not stupid, Everett wouldn't give up the Dusksong" Everly stated.

Alice cocks her head back laughing, kicking her foot in the air waving in Everly's face.

"You are right...I was kidding."

"Since you are here anyway...how is my brother?" She asked.

"Ewww, you still are fawning over him aren't you?" Alice responded.

Everly's face reddens at the mention of her deep affections toward her brother.

"N-no...I am just curious since he hasn't called in a while." Everly tried to explain.

Alice pulls her phone out, starting to dial some random number before pressing it against her ear watching the expression on Everly's face.

"Everett?" Alice asked, "Yeah she is right here if you want to speak to her!"

She yelled pulling the phone away from her ear handing it to Everly who swipes it from her hands, Everly gives a glare.

"Brother?" Everly questioned and scrutinized a few seconds before darting out the door spinning on her chunky heels in euphoria and excitement.

"I was expecting you to troll her this time." Doctor Silas replied, smirking.

She gazes down at the floor with the look of worry on her face, seeing Alice becoming disheartened almost instantly at the drop of a hat. It was sobering in the very least.

"What happened Alice?" Silas questioned.

"I didn't want to bother her too much today," Alice answered.

"It's been a long day if anything. Do you want me to bring you a cot for the night?" The good doctor asked with concern for Alice.

"Yeah...Christian?" Alice asked me.

"Yes Alice?" I replied.

"I will be protecting you tonight alright?" She said,

I wanted to laugh, but instead, I placed my hand over my mouth stopping myself. The nosebleed would run again I thought to myself.

The amount of dissociating I have been doing since the time Everett had hypnotized me has been constantly and flowing, swaying in and out through me mentally.

Silas gets up going out as Everly comes back in, she hands the phone back to Alice happily.

"Since you allowed me to talk to my brother I will do you a favor," Everly explained.

I put my hand out groggily to get their attention, Everly and Alice giving me the same blank stare.

"Your request is denied, Christian." Everly interrupted me.

"I didn't even say what it was!" I stated.

"You are going to say Chara...Christian the lab wants her as much as they want you." Everly pointed out.

"You are the same people who got to my office weren't you?" I shouted.

My body twitched just at the very thought that is why the witches knew to force me to sleep in the dirt to be sought by the very people who tore my workplace apart.

"We are…" Silas replied.

He had come back in the room swinging out a cot to unfold leaving it at the entrance.

"You technically had been operated on Christian." Everly stated, "But."

"But?" I answered.

"You are protected by the eye...it was almost useless to operate, but Chara." Doctor Silas clarified.

"What about Chara? Why is she so special?" I yelled.

"She was why you snapped out of it, she wasn't quick enough so we captured her." Everly pointed out.

"Her ability is impressive." Doctor Silas responded.

"You want to use her," I replied angrily.

"You have no say here Christian," Everly says.

"If you can leave you should while we can…" Alice tells me.

"Everett is coming so they should let you go no problem. He is good with people here." Everly answers.

Holding her face almost with the look of starstruck in her eyes, Alice didn't look as pleased.

"So Everett can make deals with vampire hunters?" I was confused.

"We know all clans aren't bad, in fact, the ones that came to your office were a false call," Everly explained.

"Who were you really looking for?" I asked.

"There is a quite famous clan called Bás and they are known for spiriting away people lately…" Silas replied.

"We were told they were there...not expecting to find an awakening lackey," Everly says.

Alice yawns, causing me to yawn in the process. I fall to my side while listening to the small group continue to talk.

Wrapping myself in the blanket I eventually drift off to sleep in a room where vampire sympathizers and human vampire hunters are in semi agreement with each other.

Waking up early in the morning I realize the room is empty, a cacophony of deafening chatter outside my door. Upon opening my door I am greeted by two men dressed in black.

They stuck their guns in my face, I was unsure how to react other than to raise my hands in the air without saying a single word.

"You are not allowed out!" One of the men said.

"We ask you to go back inside please." The other man pleads.

"Wait, that is my clan leader guy I think!" I shouted, spotting his long navy blue trench coat in the distance.

I wave frantically at the man who I think is now my clan master, behind him is Alice who is being pushed by Everly. In the rear, I could see Alex although his eyes are hidden behind atrociously long hair climbing to eventually cover his face completely.

Everett glances up at me for a couple of seconds before moving forward, the two men push me back into the room.

I am completely disheartened he ignored me otherwise. Perhaps I am trapped here temporarily. I think to myself looking up at the corner of the large room.

There was a knock on the door afterward, I could hear muffled sounds from the outside to see an eyeball gawk at me in the crack of the door.

Taking small steps backward I watch the door gradually open to see Dominique grinning at me.

"Domin...Dominique?" I stutter my words.

"You look so shocked to see me brat!" Dominique says.

"This whole thing is your fault!" I yelled.

"Oh my, what is that face you're making?" Dominique replied with an awful sneer on his contorted lips.

I try to think quickly about how to activate 'Golden Gaze", I even squint in an attempt to pry the power out of my body. Dominique sits on my bed with his legs crossed and fingers placed under his chin in amusement.

"Why did you come here?" I demanded to know bitterly.

"To erase you…"

I am jolted awake to stare at the ceiling above me, Alice is sleeping peacefully in a cot below me.

There are no windows in this room, it is dimly lit with a small office desk light on a medical cabinet.

Its soft glow felt almost like a beacon of hope to me in this trying time.

I try to nudge Alice awake, but she only turns to her side gathering more of the blanket around her as she advances in her sleep.

What will today be like when Everett comes? I pondered, what if Dominique comes?

If he can wipe Alice's mind...surely he can do that to me as a whole person, I will truly become someone who is no longer human in this reality and my own.

His arrogance haunts me even in my dreams, but that doesn't matter as no one believes me.
