Several things were starting to make sense now. The Rogue King hadn't just sent his army out on a senseless suicide mission. It was still a suicide mission though but one with purpose. Katie now knew for a fact that all the rogues they'd killed had been a diversion.
The Rogue King had broken up his army and sent it in waves aiming to slow down their approach and stall for time. With his new power to take control of his subjects, sending them on such a mission was not a difficult task.
The purpose of this tactic though, had been for something far more vile. To buy time to accomplish something even more appalling than mass murder or waging senseless war; mass suicide—if that was even a word.
How many rogues had it taken to rip a hole through the thick trees surrounding the Origin? How many of them had died in the meaningless cycle of cutting and regeneration of the forest as they cut a way to the Rogue King himself?
