Brennan wasn't able to stay nearly long enough. But he kissed Talori goodbye and promised he would be available to talk to her tomorrow after he got off work.
That would have to be enough for her. She wasn't nearly as down as she usually was when he left because she had the promise of talking to him more often. He said he would try to take some time off to visit her longer too.
Everyone could tell she was in a better mood, though only a few were brave enough to ask her about it. She didn't care how weird it seemed. Most merfolk thought she was crazy already anyway.
"Brennan loves me. He's my boyfriend now," she would tell them cheerfully.
All of them were taken aback but wisely chose not to say what they might really be thinking. Probably because they were afraid of what Zale would do to them if they offended her. Nothing got past him. They all knew he had to be aware of it and at least given passive approval.
