Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 - “Until We’re Six Feet Under”

I pulled the trigger from the window.

BANG

A monstrous scream came from the distance. I heard Dylan get up and he started running towards the cabin. Suddenly, I heard a plop on the ground, and heard Dylan mumble under his breath, "not the time". I smiled a tiny bit but it faded quickly. Dylan barged into the cabin, locking the door when he came in.

"We need to leave!" Dylan said

"I say that we wait until morning, it would be a lot safer if we just waited." I opposed

"You were not out there with that thing! I had to face that thing." Dylan yelled

"Alright calm down, I think we should just barricade the cabin and make sure nothing will be able to get in. Board up the windows if need be, but I am not going outside with whatever that is, especially at night." I said

Dylan waited for a moment, then spoke up.

"Fine, let's put something heavy in front of the door."

We both looked around the room, and we each landed on the trophy case. We nodded in agreement and both pushed at the same time. Once we got close to the door, we put it over on it's side, so it wouldn't get knocked over if something pushed on it. Once we were done barricading the door, covering up every window so it couldn't see inside, and locking everything, we went into the bedroom.

"Someone should keep watch for a few hours." I suggested.

"I say you first, I'm sleeping right now." Dylan said without hesitation.

Dylan plopped on the bed, and turned to the side. It was pretty dark in the room, considering we covered up all the windows. The only light that got in was moonlight that was able to shine through the cracks of the coverings.

I tried my best not to fall asleep, but being exhausted and the adrenaline passing, I couldn't keep my eyes open. Eventually, I ended up dozing off, God knows how long for.

My sleep was interrupted by a bashing sound. It sounded like it was coming from our truck? I peered out the window and saw the creature yet again, looking almost exactly like Dylan. I looked back behind me and saw Dylan, completely unfazed, but then again he always was a heavy sleeper.

Knowing the real Dylan was by my side was reassuring, but I was still in shock at what we just saw. I crouched over to Dylan and shook him awake, which took me a couple tries. His eyes peered open.

"Dylan, it's back, and banging on the truck." I explained

Dylan's eyes slowly opened, and gave me a confused look.

"What?" he asked

"It's banging on the truck." I repeated.

"Oh hell no! That thing is gonna pay for that!" Dylan said as he jumped out of bed.

Dylan got his gun and I could hear him moving the trophy case, scratching the wood flooring.

"No Dylan, you can't go out there!" We'll make a call to the sheriff in the morning, that truck is not worth your life!" I argued.

"Either you're with me out there or you stay in here! That piece of shit is not living!"

Dylan walked out the door in a fit of rage screaming and cursing the monster for ruining his truck.

"Hey, you ugly piece of shit! Get the hell offa my truck!" Dylan yelled before a shot was fired.

I rushed back to the bedroom and peered through the window, the monster laid dead on the hood of the truck, dark red blood spattered on the windshield.

"Anticlimactic much?" I said under my breath.

Dylan let out a scream and a thud sounded through the cabin.

"Get the hell off of me you bastard!"

I grabbed my gun and walked out the bedroom door and instantly froze. 3 pairs of orange eyes seered right at me.

There were more of them. One crouching on the moved trophy case, one sticking to the ceiling but with a contorted, twisted body to get a look at me, and the other stood only a few footsteps away from me, slouching it's back.

I could see its breathing forming in the cold air. It let out a disgusting gurgle from the bottom of its throat. I raised the stock of my rifle to my shoulder but my nerves got to me and I was shaking as fast as a hummingbird's wings flapping.

I couldn't get a proper sight on it and it charged at me the moment it knew it had an opening. I stepped to the side and it slipped right away and heard another gunshot from outside. It had to have been Dylan and I had to help him.

I collected myself for only a moment, and turned back around. The contorted body of the monster on the ceiling went back to a somewhat normal look, and it compressed its legs and leaped at me. Its mouth was wide open and yellow decaying teeth and fangs snarled at me.

I thought quickly and put my rifle between me and the monster. It grabbed on the rifle trying to get the rifle out of its mouth and I turned it around and slammed it against the wall. It let out a grunt and I bashed my knee into its stomach and it dropped to the ground in pain.

I heard a screech and turned around as quickly as I could but I couldn't react in time to the monster hurling itself at me. I covered my face with my forearms and braced myself.

It knocked me into the window and it shattered against our weight. I hit my head off of the dirt ground where the previous fight between Dylan and the other monster outside took place.

I shook my head and rubbed my eyes, but the monster interrupted me in the process and climbed right on top of me. It started wailing on me with its lanky arms, and I could only block with my own until I finally got ahold of one and started punching back.

Unnervingly though, it was unfazed by the hits to the head and kept hitting with its other arm. I was unable to do anything except hope it'll tire itself out before I get too badly wounded.

Out of nowhere I heard heavy footsteps running my way and I opened my eyes. I saw the monster's face get almost obliterated by Dylan's kick. He looked right in my eyes.

"Get your ass up, we are not dying here." He said coldly.

I could see that he himself was fighting this whole time. He reached his hand out at me and I noticed that they were beaten and bloody.

"Look at your hands! Holy shit Dylan what did they do to you?" I asked urgently.

"Not. My. Blood." He said between breaths.

"What?"

"The question you should be asking is what did I do to them." Dylan replied.

The look of rage and berserk he had on his face scared me, but it was also reassuring in a way.

"No one, and I mean no one will mess with my truck. Now, GET. UP." He shook his hand at me.

I grabbed his hand, and felt the lukewarm blood on his hand, and gave him a stern look.

"Not stopping 'til we're six feet under" I said while firmly gripping his hand and keeping my eyes locked on his, it was like he allowed me to borrow some of his hatred and determination.

We turned around, covering each other's back, and prepared to fight until we couldn't anymore.

"Until we're six feet under." He repeated.
