Chapter 1 - Ends Meet

Only two living organisms now inhabit the dark vastness of space, each being carrying with it ancientness that can never even begin to be comprehended.

These beings of old now float thousands of miles away from a dimming cluster of stars, seemingly waiting for something of grand significance.

The expressions these beings adopted were that of reminiscence, sadness, and a jumbled mess of a myriad of other murky emotions.

These beings of old were a plane of existence that were entirely different yet both held similar feelings of the events about to take place.

The event in question taking place. . . well, it was simply the peaceful dying of a star, however, the label this star holds is of astronomical importance to these beings currently watching from a vast distance away. This star, being that very last star in existence, the stars flames finally beginning to falter and die out to the vistitudes of time.

The beings watching have been roaming the emptiness of space for eons, the concept of time not even being applicable. Epochs and time periods not even being something that could be recorded. These beings came from differing places, one human from Earth, and the other. . .

The existence of this other being is actually of greater age than the human, having been around since the birthing of the Universe and possibly even before that, simply waiting for the being it was supposed to connect with.

The species of this being, was actually a snail. The snail has no name, it's point of origin being lost in the dredged of time, not even the snail being able to recall its starting point of existence. After its unknown birthing, it was only left with one thought crazily storming through its head, "find him, the one who holds existence similar to yours." That was it, the words sounding of a broken grandfather clock were never spoken from this unknown being again that forcefully put upon purpose for this lonely being.

At some unknown point in time, finally, this snail actually found its purpose. A lone human, cursed with unending immortality, though such knowledge was not known by this human at the time. The slow pace of the snail eventually reached the feat of this being, however, this human was a bit different from the rest of its species. Due to the snails slow pace across the Milky Way, and then eventually to the solar system that contained Earth, it had been able to observe these beings. To the snail, all humans were the same. They all cried, laughed, got angry, etc. But the being it was about to reach was an outlier, the now more observable being that seemed to be in his teenage years was odd.

The human boy seemed to be around 17, which mind you is a minuscule number compared to the snail. One of the things that made the boy so odd yet so familiar, was that he had no name. The snail couldn't understand this as even though it didn't have much importance, it went against the norm of this planet.

This was only figured out when the snail finally reached the boys feat and asked for his name, his response being that he simply didn't have one.

Two nameless beings, each with unique origins, then began traveling together. But, at some point, the traveling turned to wandering. . . And at some point, it was just senseless roaming. These being watched the end of the Earth, and eventually the collapses of every celestial body existing within the milky way. At that point, all they could do was wonder, neither of the beings even speaking to each other for an uncountable number of years.

After roaming and watching eventually die off into nothingness, they were now watching the final source of the light die off. . .

For the first time in a seemingly infinite amount of time, the snail decided to speak, it's voice being of extreme ancientness, yet still held profound majesty.

"It's almost time, will I ever be able to see you again, my special existence?"

Even though the beings were actually one lightyear apart, the snails voice was clearly heard even in the vacuum of space.

The human seemed to hold a tinge of sadness at the title he was given, fully realizing that he never even gave himself a name. But he didn't reply, his stary eyes that seemed to be filled to the brim with knowledge actually answering the question that both the beings knew.

The snail could only look at this being from afar at it already new the answer. And was no.

one thousand years passed, then another, and another. . . finally, the last light was actually disappearing, the snail and humans stary eyes actually beginning to dim as they look at each other. They could both see the last light reflecting off their faces beginning to dim, as all they could do was stand still and wait for the End.

At this moment, before the churning of merciless time finally swallowed everything whole, the human decided to speak.

"you. . . need not to worry. . . once the light is gone. . . we will be gone as well. . . and the concept of out existence will finally reach the End. . ."

Even though it had been several thousand years since the snails question, the human remembered to answer. His voice was creaky yet cleat, the snail only looking with an impassive gaze.

Then finally. . . nothing. the last light shining on the faces of these beings finally went out. First there was only darkness, the beings still feeling there existence continue. But then, white blankness. This infinitely long sheen of which cut the darkness horizontally, revealing only the top halfs of these beings. Then everything that still existed from bottom up began to turn to ash.

All the snail and human could do was stare at each other with immense sadness, but before the ash could finally reach there faces, smiles appeared on there faces. A few seconds later, and then there was nothing, this strange yet profound white horizontal cut seeming to seal the deal for the ends of everything. Then finally. . .

Nothing.

The End. . .
