They were knights but Alex couldn't figure out why knights here and with mage no less. Just as he trying to understand the situation a man dressed in black emerged from the forest and approached the young mage. He whispered to the mage. When he finished the mage turned to look in Alex's direction.
"You can come out," the mage said.
Alex jumped out of his hiding spot. He couldn't help but wonder how that man spotted him but as he observed the man closer he could tell that the man was a scout.
The mage was the first step forward, "Who are you?" he asked warily.
"I'm a knight under Miss Davra Javra," Alex replied confidently.
"Oh...is that right," the mage said as looked at Alex's clothing.
Alex seemed to realise the man's puzzlement and explained: "I didn't get armor because I'm not a warrior."
"I see that explains why you were hiding in a tree but why were you?" the mage asked.
"I saw those trolls passing by and didn't want to alart them, Alex said.
When he heard that he turned his back. When looked in the same direction, he understood. That was where the corpse of the first troll he brought down was. He tried to think of some excuse but he couldn't think of anything.
"So that troll mysteriously died from a arrow to the neck?" the mage asked.
"I was practicing my archery, when those trolls came out of nowhere," Alex explained. That was the best excuse he could come up with.
"That's okay it hasn't really matter," the mage answered unconvinced by Alex's explanation.
"Hoy...if you're really a knight where's your armor!" shouted one of armored men. Alex looked in the direction of the shout. There he saw he saw a burly bearded man in shinny silver armor. The mage went back to his companions and explained everything. There suspicion lessed when they looked at Alex but the beared man from earlier was still looking suspiciously at him. He followed them as they made their way through the forest.
"So why are you guys here in the forest," Alex asked.
The mage was the one that answered him, "Hunting the trolls in the area. They attacked a few merchants leaving the city, so we were dispatched here to clear the area."
"Isn't that the what Adventure's are for?" Alex asked doubtfully. When he was an Adventurere every time there were monsters to close to the city, Adventure's were sent out even that time with the Orcs.
"Usually yes but some of the were somewhat impatient. So we were sent out," the mage said.
"Oh..I ...see so that's why." If that was the reason he could understand why. Nobles were a stubborn lot and impatient especially when something affected there business. He could guess that some of those merchants have deals with some of the nobles. If they don't make any money neither do the nobles.
