The Khans' mounted crossbows rained consecutive barrages of arrows into Umana city, but the city was protected by a force field that deflected most of the arrows.

Melroy commanded his maiden puppets to occupy different sections of the walls and when they were in position an arraye was cast. The shield covered most of the walls from the Khans' projectiles.
