Chapter 2 - The Encounter of the Predecessor

Chiang Cha was still pondering over where and when he was, so he remained silent with a thoughtful look on his face.

The maid who called him young master was sitting at the side, intently watching Chiang Cha.

She was worried on the surface, but in her heart, she didn't care about Chang Cha´s wellbeing.

She only hoped that the Young Master would live so that she wasn't punished by the clan head for slacking off while taking care of Chiang Cha.

She really wasn't being too terrible. The predecessor of Chiang Cha wasn´t exactly social.

He was reclusive and was always in his chambers, seeming to not care about anything, just reading books all day without a care in the world.

Due to this, his intelligence and scope of knowledge was rather impressive, but his social skills were severely lacking.

He didn't know how to talk to people who didn't know as much as him without seeming disdainful.

He really didn't mean to be such a person, but he couldn't help it.

So, his predecessor simply stopped interacting with people so he wouldn't hurt people with his sharp words.

The new Chang Cha was still observing the environment around him intently, when he suddenly got a hint at what era he was in.

He saw outside the window in his chambers youngsters practicing with swords and spears.

What stood out sharply, however, was the superhuman strength and speed they welded those weapons with.

He also noticed these youngsters being guided by an old man who, despite looking like he was a hundred years old, still had an aura of vitality and strength.

He was soon struck by realization. ´I`m in one of those cultivation worlds my friend was always obsessed with!´

He really couldn`t believe it.

Just as he was reeling from shock, as if done on purpose, a familiar looking panel appeared before hm.

Yes/No]

Chiang Cha was slightly overwhelmed by the information on the panel.

He read through it with his pupils constricting and a sense of defeat surging through his mind when he saw the statuses he had.

He also couldn't help but scoff at the ´reclusive scholar´ bit put in there by the system.

He was so depressed by the brain damage status that he didn't notice the body altering feature notice for a moment.

When he noticed it, he was curious. 'How bad can it be?"

He mentally said yes and then the screen in front of him.

The screen in front of him changed and suddenly he saw a diagram of the human body. It was a mirror version of himself.

He was staring at the system with distracted eyes. He wasn't truly taking this system seriously.

After all, could it cure brain damage?

.

...

...

Wait... Didn't that shifty-eyed immortal say this system can edit physical appearance down to the finest level?

In that case, how small could he edit down to?

His' initially dead eyes immediately regained an amazing amount of vigor, and he was about to begin delving into this system, when he noticed two people standing beside him.

One was a young girl who looked like a maid, the other a matronly woman who stared at him with care and concern. He somehow immediately felt the urge to call her mother.

He realized that he couldn't begin to explore the intricacies of the system until he had dealt with certain matters regarding his predecessors family.

He sat up on the bed he was lying in and looked at his mother who spoke in a tone full of worry and care, "Cha Cha, don't force yourself to do anything. Tao Ruoshen, go fetch some medicine for Cha Cha."

Tao Ruoshen got up and bowed to his mother, Chiang Changying, and left to go get medicine.

Chiang Cha looked at his mother and smiled. He could sense the care and concern of a mother and he was comforted for the first time since he had died.

He didn't feel conflicted about this woman being his mother at all as he initially thought he would. He knew that both mothers from both his lives were simply both his mothers. There was no feeling of there having to be only one mother in his heart as he thought there would be.

He felt for the first time since before his death relaxation and comfort.

He looked at his mother and said with a laughing tone of voice, "Mother, I am fine, truly. I just feel a little exhausted so could I sleep and recuperate so that I will be able to get back to my life as soon as possible."

He could sense that his mother was concerned about if he was telling the truth, so he could only repeat himself three more times before she sighed and gave up on trying to pamper this coold son of hers.

While Chiang Cha never treated her badly and was always warm towards his mother, she couldn't help but wish he was a bit more fond of speaking with his mother.

She left and told Tao Ruoshen who happened to be returning to the room to leave the medicine at the door, and then told her to follow her.

Chiang Cha was excited about looking into the system panel more in depth.

He reached for the 'spirit aperture' he always felt and a panel appeared before him.

He just now noticed that he could somehow perfectly see through the panel even though it seemed opaque and matte.

He looked at the panel and 'touched' the yes button.

[Generating body editing engine.... Complete. Please select living part of body you would like to edit.]

He looked over to the mirror version of himself and began to zoom in. He started zooming in on the brain and discovered some key things wrong with his brain, but now was not the time to worry about that.

Because, if his theory was correct, brain damage would be a minor issue that could be easily fixed.

He kept zooming in, going deeper into the human body. He soon got down into a level where he could see the details of his organ tissues.

Chiang Cha's breathing hastened and he began to zoom deeper and soon saw a single cell. It was a skin cell, yet he was able to see it so clearly he could hardly recognize it.

After all, the karyotype he was familiar with was black and white and grainy as all get-up.

He realized that he could edit things in the cell in an artistic way that required fine skill and precise cellular knowledge.

He was beginning to feel excited. He might be able to make his body one of the perfect creations. The perfect physique was not really a thing on earth, people just had impressive muscles.

The true perfect physique he was thinking about was a theory on earth. It was a person with a body that could process food and water perfectly and could handle tasks that no other body could handle.

A perfect physique would be able to heal at incomprehensible rates, lift incomprehensible weight, and their mind could take a normally unbearable burden.

After all, the brain was a part of the body and could be included in physique.

He was dreaming, but he was still considering things.

He tried to zoom in deeper to see the organelles and when he got there, he still tried to zoom in further.

What awaited him there was something that all scientists on earth would never get the chance to see.

'What is this?!'

He had zoomed past protons and electrons and was expecting to find empty space, but in the layer before emptiness, he saw something that would stick with him for the rest of his life.

He saw a light, a tiny light, and it seemed ordinary if one was objective. However, if one used even the slightest bit of human sense, one would instantly discover an absolute profundity that couldn't even be described with words. It was as if there was worlds and galaxies in this little white light that was several time smaller than a neutron.

He zoomed out, feeling an intense headache. 'Noted, do not zoom past atoms. I'll never do that again!'

He didn't want to ever feel that ever again. He had barely been exposed to it for a second and he already felt that his mind was about to explode with boundless secrets contained within the Great Dao.

However, almost all of this profound comprehension vanished from his mind as he was still a mortal who couldn't comprehend even one percent of it. The little bit he did gain was years worth of comprehension. The price, however, was one headache that wouldn't let one touch sanity for its duration.

He then zoomed out and started to mess with what he could edit and the extent to which he could edit things.

He began to do things in a very scientific way and began to explore.

Soon, he discovered that he could indeed edit his body, and he discovered that he could even inject things such as metal, wood, gasses and other things into the cells, giving them those properties. He tried this on a single skin cell and immediately discovered a vital piece of information.

In order to give his cells those properties, the energy expenditure was enormous and couldn't be shouldered by a mortal with no cultivation.

He looked at the panel and then at the Qi part of the character sheet. He decided that he would try his best to obtain a Qi Cultivation technique in the next few days.

With a plan, he set his mind at ease and tried to gradually fall asleep, waiting to get an early start on his first day in his new life.

'We will see how this life goes, maybe in this life, I should be more of a fighter and take things I need, no longer relying on people rewarding me for a job well done. I'm going to become a warrior who takes what is his!'
