A deep silence was generated between Shizune and Kurono due to the latter's words, but as quickly as that situation arose, it went on with the explanation that Kurono needed to address.
"Believe me, I never did anything that would incite that, I've only treated Yuki-san the same way I treat everyone, maybe it's true that I get a little closer to her because of her position, but…" Kurono unconsciously felt nervous as he compared the situation to one where he had done something wrong and was confessing to Shizune even though it wasn't like that at all. "I really don't understand why it all came about..."
Shizune didn't interrupt Kurono since she was still busy analyzing what she had just heard, a couple of feelings were being generated in her with each passing second, surprise, confusion... But especially, a feeling that she had rarely experienced in her life.
"Oh... And what exactly was your response?" Kurono was about to reply, but before that happened, a slight chill ran through his entire body. He thought that perhaps some of the icy atmosphere outside was seeping into the car, but when he turned his attention back to Shizune, and especially the way she was looking at him, the whole thing became quite clear.
"I rejected her, I had nothing to consider for my answer." Kurono believed that those words would be enough... But Shizune did not consider it that way.
"Really? And you weren't happy to receive the confession of a young and beautiful girl?" It seemed that Shizune was now directly saying everything that was on her mind, that feeling was taking over her, and although she knew that this was not the way she would normally act, it was already too late to back down.
Kurono watched as Shizune let go of his hand so that she crossed her arms under her chest and her eyes narrowed a little in anticipation of the answer she wanted, but just as that was unfolding, Kurono had just guessed what was happening.
"No, my head was filled with complicated emotions at that moment, but I was mainly thinking about you and that I shouldn't betray you, although as I told you before, I had no reason to accept Yuki-san's confession in the first place." Knowing what was on Shizune's mind, Kurono tried to lighten the situation by choosing the right words, but Shizune was already a bit ahead of it.
"You only say that because you know I'm upset, right?"
"Well... That's the case, but, what do you want me to do? I didn't think it would bother you so much." And although Kurono's words weren't entirely wrong, they didn't help the situation at all.
...
…
Time followed its course normally before you could still hear the sound of cars in the distance, as well as the image of some people walking the streets of the area of the city where the apartment complex was located, but now, apart from a few exceptions, Kurono's car could still be seen parked, and inside it was two figures sharing a pleasant moment.
"Sorry..." After a silence that seemed eternal, Shizune let out those simple words that only Kurono could hear.
"You don't need to apologize… I can understand you, even a little. Maybe I shouldn't have said everything directly, I guess I would react the same way if the situation were repeated in your case." Both Kurono and Shizune had had time to speak more calmly, so Shizune had now apologized for showing that little scene of jealousy…
"No, I know that I shouldn't act like that... But it was practically unconscious." Shizune felt ashamed of herself when she remembered what had happened, and buried her head even more in Kurono's shoulder since the hug they were sharing allowed her to do it.
"Well... Although I think getting upset about such things is unnecessary, I still feel a little happy seeing you express yourself like that." Kurono couldn't help but let out a small laugh after that, and although he guessed that Shizune pouted, both were quite aware that the conversation should return to its initial point.
"And tell me... what happened to Yuki-san?" The two had separated again and Shizune needed to delve a little deeper into what had happened, not because she was still upset, but because she knew that all this was related to Kurono's strange way of acting.
"I told her that, I couldn't accept her feelings and she didn't say anything else before saying goodbye to me and going back to work, I didn't try to talk to her after that either, so I don't know how to feel about it." Kurono had taken again his serious expression from the beginning while reliving those not-so-recent memories.
"Surely she needs some time to think, but if you ask me, I don't find it strange that she fell in love with you. Maybe it's true that you never tried something that could produce that feeling, but you just need to take me as an example since… Since you also made me fall in love with you." Shizune was being honest, she didn't need to be ashamed in front of Kurono, but she still felt a little nervous talking like that. "What I mean is that you can't control that, each person is unique, as well as their thoughts and feelings, things turned out that way, but you shouldn't feel guilty for being honest with her."
Shizune thought that it was best to give an objective opinion about it, she supposed that was all that made Kurono have complicated thoughts or blame himself for hurting a girl in love... But the problem was that Shizune didn't know that there was something deeper, and the even more complicated expression that came from Kurono made her worry, and had to ask him if he was alright.
"I understand what you're saying, it's just that all of that brought back memories that I didn't want to appear..." Kurono frowned again and then closed his eyes completely in an attempt to calm down enough, but as at the beginning, and looking like the situation was repeated, he had to open them, but this time, in addition to feeling Shizune's hand next to his, the sight of that woman whom he deeply loved was giving him the strength he needed to finally decide to tell her what, in his opinion, was something he was not capable of forgetting.
