Chapter 95 - A New Power

The strange thing about these voices was that they were in different parts of his head and they were identical to his. He tried to stand up but his body quivered violently and he barely managed to stand up straight. His body temperature was rising and decreasing in instability. It felt like his skin had been poured with a bucket of boiling water. The voices in his head kept increasing. Some got louder but others just maintained their whispers.

The Finch now stood before him. 'I'm surprised you're still breathing,' she said standing with her arms akimbo. 'I guess that potion you drank turned out to be stronger than I thought. Well then…let's finish you off, shall we?' She grabbed him by his throat and she placed her other hand on his mask. 'Maybe I should give you a kiss goodbye before I put you out of your misery.' She began pulling on his mask.

Brendan released a bellow of frustration, 'Stop!' he shouted at the voices in his head.

'I'm afraid it's too late to change your mind, my love,' she said.

'Shut up!!' he bellowed again.

She stood amazed at how he could even have enough energy to shout after he had received such a beating. She opened her mouth to speak…

Suddenly, a huge black circular wave of energy sprung from Brendan's waist, throwing and smashing her through the walls of a building far behind her.

He stood up straight. His posture was now pride and strength. The voices in his head lowered their volume until they all disappeared. His body temperature cooled down to its natural warmth and even the quivering had disappeared. He now felt a whole lot different than before. He could feel a channel of energy circulating through his body. Each breath he took felt like he was inhaling something cold and fresh as he could feel his veins jolt at every single breath. He examined his body. All the bruises, scars, burns and even pain had gone!

The Finch straightened her back as she sat in the building she had crashed into. She grabbed one of her sneakers which had flown off her foot from beside her and she roughly put it on. She got up and ran towards him with her heightened speed and she stopped a cautious distance away. She realized that he had finally accepted his Versatile gene and thinking that it possessed total control of his body, she decided to seize her opportunity.

'I see you've finally come to reason,' she sneered. 'Versatile!' she shouted, 'The war has begun. Let us resume the Dawn together!'

Brendan chuckled, 'You really think I'm gullible, don't you..?'

Her grin slowly vanished.

'That I would allow my mind to be controlled…and my own body?'

'It cannot be…It's impossible! You don't know how to summon the gene at will…I'm the only one! How could you even be able to reason with it into giving you total control? I'm the only one who possesses that kind of wisdom,' her face was panic.

'Did you really think that my gene was going to let me die? I know about the Unconscious Time Movement and how peace is the only thing that can summon the gene. You were obviously the busiest person on the planet and only when you stopped brewing your hocus-pocus you discovered or rather…realized how to summon the Versatile gene.'

She clenched her fists tightly.

'How do you plan on defeating a Supreme who gains power at each breath he takes? I guess I have you to thank for that, don't I?'

She relaxed her expression and it settled down to a smile. She closed her eyes. 'Even though I think you're making a huge mistake by betraying your own Race, I'm not going to ask you to reconsider again.'

'Good…because I don't think you'll have to. With the power I feel flowing inside of me like a fountain at each breath I take, this fight won't take long.'

She slowly opened her eyes and turned them to Brendan. 'So this is where our love story ends?' She smiled, sadly.

'No. This is where your fantasy dreamboat hits the iceberg. This is what prophecy says.' He now stood in a fighting stance.

She laughed softly…'Then so be it.'
