Chapter 88 - The Finch's Birthday Party

He returned to the living room and threw himself on the couch. 'Miriam!'

She did not take too long to respond. She had obviously been taking a nap. 'Is it midday already, sir?' she asked in surprise as she quickly descended the stairs.

'No,' he picked up the remote control and switched on the TV, 'Get me something sweet to drink,' he said.

'Coffee, sir?'

'No, orange juice maybe.'

She went straight into the kitchen and soon enough, she came in with a tray with a glass of orange juice in her hands. He made himself comfortable on the couch as he flipped through the channels. Miriam placed the tray on the coffee table in front of him.

'Is that all, sir?' she asked him in a calm voice.

'Yes, that's all, Miriam you can go now.'

'I shall return at twelve to make you lunch, then?' She curtsied and headed up the stairs.

He took two gulps of his orange juice before returning it on the tray. He flipped to the news channel, "Bradwield Future News", which always showed updates on incidents occurring in Bradwield.

The news reporter was stating the damage caused by the Bradwield Terror. News of the death of the Bradwield Terror had obviously not been acknowledged by the whole city. There was suddenly a short moment of static showers on the screen:

'We interrupt this report to give you a live message from the Finch,' the female news reporter said.

Brendan's heart leapt in shock.

The Finch was in an almost completely dim hall. She was wearing her usual "funeral" clothes and she sat by a small wooden table. The background was completely dim. The only things visible were the Finch and the small table she was sitting at. Her hands were clasped together and a wicked smile was on her face, stretching from ear to ear. She moved the camera closer to herself then she clasped her hands again:

'A good morning to you all, Bradwield citizens. I hope my message finds you in the best of health. For those that do not know me, I am Delilah Stoltz, better known as the Finch. A stupid name, I know, but none of us ever get to pick our names really. Anyway, today is a special holiday you will all remember…Oh, don't fret it's my birthday.' Her wicked grin did not show any signs of wearing out any time soon. 'I've turned four-hundred-and-fifty-one and to kick off my birthday party, I had a little human vacuuming project this morning, but it's not over yet, oh, no…the party has barely begun.' Her smile vanished suddenly.

'I was here when David Bradwield was still building this city. I saw it all and I even helped him. I know you didn't know that; me and a Race of Supremes he was forced by the people of this city to leave out of his theory; the Race of "Felines". That's right, there are six Supreme Races, not five. I joined the Felines when I came across them. I traveled with them, ate with them; our differences being age and wisdom. I taught them magic and all the other tricks I knew which had anything to do with survival. With some of us living in this city, we were kicked out because of you people. We were kicked out of a land we had come to call our home. Luckily for you, the Felines live on nonviolent principles and codes of conduct. I left the Felines when I realized we had certain different goals and ideas. When I left them, I relocated to the island of Australia where I met a man, married him and I had two kids with him; a boy and a girl. He found out about my unorthodox and controversial practices and he tried to sell me out to the police, but I killed him. I came back here, the same place the Felines and I had been kicked out of. I didn't have a job so I started practicing my magic skills in the forest for years and "servicing" people in order to keep the food on the table for me and my children. So, basically, what I'm trying to say is; I own this city. This city is mine. I belong here.

'I mastered the method of creating Supremes in the forest; three of them of course. I didn't want to create Felines because if David would have spotted them then he would think that my sisters, the Felines, were rebelling against his words. I didn't want to create Girols because I would only be increasing the number of my Race's enemy. Now as much as I would love to stay and talk some more, I actually have a party to attend to. I am leaving you with this warning, people of Bradwield. Sleep with not one but both eyes open because I will be slaughtering you mercilessly until not a single human being is left. And to the Anonymous, I say; either you join me and help the Supremes with their mission or you just join the humans and share their fate.' She returned her wicked grin and looked deep into the camera. 'Now…' she spoke in an almost formal tone, 'Back to the party.' She snapped her fingers and the lights in the background switched on. Behind her was a horrific scene. Hanging from the ceiling, by their necks, were two corpses. The footage finally stopped.
