Chapter 1 - A Walk in History

Chapter 1

"I shalt surrender my sword and lay with the gods" Said Stone Tell under his fading breath; as he convulsively struck a Baliamort warrior. Stone Tell had eyes as blue as the ocean with inflated muscles like balloons and his dealings with men was as straight as a camel's back. He would choose loyalty to any human no matter the cost. He had auburn hairs, a lateral beard, and an angular head with what looked like foxes' ears. He was also referred to as 'the immortal' because he had fought side by side the king in several battles. There was no battle that he led, that didn't reign victorious.

On the other hand, King Laha Callous was labelled a shrewd man because he ruled ancient Francmort with an iron fist. He believed hook line and sinker what his late father; had taught him by the books, in speech and by means of observation. A piece of King Laha Callous' name was surely muttered amidst homes within the Kingdom and even outside the corridors of power. If anything, he was one man that could be described as beautiful. His hair was like the stream, mellifluous and velvety in nature. His frame was an intimidating one. He was 6'8 feet tall and had the most seductive sea green eyes ever seen. His eyes sparkled like the shell of a tortoise under water. Women in the courts of the palace would shyly stroke their hairs in admiration when he walked passed them. He would also always dim his eyes when he sashayed under the poignant rays of the sun, in the royal garden. This act was very maddening and super seductive to the young women of the palace.

Although his late father believed in violence like the gospel, King Laha had his soft spots in between. He would most a times choose violence rather than a table talk because that was what he learnt from his father. Even though men mostly bore the chief consequences of his weakness, women and children were also not spared. The war between Francmort and Baliamort was an ancestral one and the King was not about to end it just yet.

The King Laha Callous, inherited this consuming hatred for the Kingdom of Baliamort, from his predecessors. It was such an exhausting venture to trace the exact cause of this trans- generational feud. But all that Francmort knew was that; the wars had something to do with an ancestral King from the lineage of Balia who plotted to kill the first ever born set of twins that the Callous' lineage had. In those days, what made it more infuriating for the people of Francmort was that, the twin boys that were killed, were of royal blood and were the only heir to the throne at the time. Because they were twins, the boys were to assume ruler ship of the kingdom when their father had joined his ancestors. They were also to rule the kingdom together on equal grounds and rights.

According to the tales told by men, it was said that the twins were seen as a bad omen, a curse on the land and one that had to be purged as soon as possible. Because they had no historical references to twins in the past, twins were perceived as the devil's incarnate.

***

At that time, when the Queen of Francmort found out from a seer, that she was with twins, she told her husband the King, and they both planned that when their sons are born, they'd hide them in the palace temple with only access by the King, Queen, the assigned maid and the temple priestess.

Now when the King of Baliamort had heard about the rumored twins, he rallied his most skilled warriors who were specially trained by the King himself. After 60 days of training and practice, they marched to lay siege on Ancient Francmort where the only sons of the King Laha Callous were killed. This murder made the Kingdom of Francmort to mourn for months and they wouldn't be consoled.

After the killings, some very dreary rituals followed. The bodies of the twins were seized and there was nothing left for the Kingdom of Francmort to bury. Their flesh was cut into small bits and was soaked in vinegar. Their fleshes were immersed in two separate drums for three days and three nights. On the third night, the King of Baliamort, stood before his people and consulted with some ancient spirits. After mumbling many incantations, chants and spirited dancing, the King invoked and freed the Green witch from the dark cave of sorcery to perform the ritual after which she was to be sent back to the spirit land. Now the Green witch was the most feared of all witches - for she was the most cunning of them all. She was of all spirits, the most deceptive especially because she had a strange ability to look like anybody she wanted to look like. She could also talk exactly like her impersonated victim.

It was 12:00 am on the dot and by the witch's clock it was time to begin purging the land. First of all, the witch let out a hysterical cry and a cock in attendance, acknowledged her by crowing. The witch's hour had come and it was time to cleanse the land. She took the flesh of the twin boys that were soaked in vinegar and sprinkled it around the major entrances of their Kingdom. After that night, it was said that there was such strange silence that graced the land of Baliamort. But that wasn't all, something mysterious happened… when it was time for the spirit of the Green witch to be revoked to the dark cave of sorcery from whence she was summoned, she was nowhere to be found!

Great fear descended upon the people of Baliamort like a hot sodden blanket. It was as though they had all come down with a fever at the same time. They couldn't walk back to their various homes knowing that the Green witch was still out there -somewhere.

Where could she have vanished to? We're about to find out.
