"So, how did it go?" Diva eagerly inquired of Alexis as soon she returned to their cell in the evening.
"The Rebels wanted territorial concessions, the release of prisoners, and a ransom. My father's representative spent the meeting trying futilely to convince them that my father wouldn't sacrifice the kingdom for me, with little success."
Diva sighed and offered the remainder of her dinner to Alexis.
"Here, I saved half for you."
"Thanks, but there's no need. I ate plenty at the negotiations table. The two sides seemed like they were trying to outdo each other with the refreshments."
Alexis pulled out a napkin and unfolded it, revealing a small assortment of cakes and pastries. Diva stared at the napkin's contents with wide eyes.
"Here, I was able to save these for you."
