Esmeralda resolutely approached the front entrance of a pleasure-house.
"Customers only," the guard growled at her.
She presented Jacob's letter of appointment.
"Your boss will want to see me, once he reads this."
She read it herself, of course, although it took her a long time and a great effort. She wasn't going to go around relying on a weapon she didn't know.
"Hmph. What is it?"
"A letter from my master, who's also a mage and the owner of one of the mage academy's teachers. I suggest you have someone deliver it."
The guard took it but didn't read it since like most peasants, he was illiterate.
