"From the location , frost troll?" alina sought confirmation. alastair nodded "yeah he tried to ambush us so i ripped the bastards head off and watched it twitch for the next five minutes." he said with an amused expression. alina laughed at the mental image "yeah trolls have some crazy vitality , heard some people even turn them into potions for men with "issues" in bed." she joked. alastair showed off his wives "obviously i don't have such problems , heck i even have three kids about your age from each of my lovely wives here." he said smugly.
Alina was startled when she heard this "my age , just how old are you?" she wondered out loud. "thirty eight turning thirty nine in a month." alastair said with a grin. "but how are so young looking?" alina asked in surprise. alastair bent his ear forward showing the purple pointed tip. "first my race is known to live for thousands of years and second i'm fairly certain that i no longer age making me immortal." he said honestly. "are you some sort of vampire?" alina asked with no disgust at all despite the stigma around them.
Alastair shook his head "vampires may have many things going for them but they also have just as many problems. while vampires don't age they are afraid of fire and the sun and have a few features that make them easy to distinguish if you look carefully." he paused to make sure she was still listening. "the first feature and also the most noticeable is the sickly pale skin they have. the second is the dull red glow in the back of their eyes. and the last is the unusually long canines in their mouths. as you can see clearly i have none of those features." he explained seriously.
"Ok so you definitely aren't a vampire , but then how are you immortal?" alina asked confused. alastair wondered how to explain clearly since the knowledge of cellular degradation is not likely known. "you know how as time goes on rust shows up on swords?" he asked and alina nods. "well aging is like the slow buildup of rust and no matter how many times you remove the rust it keeps coming back and the sword gets more and more damaged as a result right?" he asked getting another nod in understanding. "so what do you think would happen if the sword were restored to its original condition were it had no damage?" he asked.
"It would be as though no time had passed at all." alina said with a look of enlightenment. "so you are like a sword that is constantly being restored to its original condition." she stated. alastair nodded "while my immortality doesn't have any other benefits it also doesn't have any downsides either." he said honestly. "not going to lie , i'm sort of jealous." alina said honestly. alastair shrugged "i'm sure you'll also have an opportunity at immortality though i suspect it will just be a kind of vampirism." alastair said with a mysterious glint in his eye.
After this alina parted ways with alastairs group and headed up the path to high hrothgar but not before alastair hinted not to trust the blades. the reason he did this was because he would really like to avoid having paarthurnax killed after he had spent literal thousands of years atoning for his sins. it also didn't help that delphine was extremely arrogant towards the dragonborn despite supposedly being sworn to serve them. alastair and his group left iverstead and cleared out a random cave full of bandits.
When looting the bandits horde alastair had a rather hilarious incident happen. reaching into the large chest alastair pulled out a heavily wrapped orb about the size of a basket ball. before he could remember what it was a loud voice echoed in his head. "A NEW HAND!" alastair immediately cut off the voice "SHUT THE HELL UP!" he yelled angrily. "HOW DARE!" meridia begins but alastair cuts her off. "SHUT UP YOU LOUD FUCKING PIXIE!" he yelled at the orb leaving meridia speechless. taking a deep breath alastair speaks normally to the orb "now try talking at a normal level rather than trying to blow out my gods damned eardrums."
