Time slowed to a stop as the sound of a pipboy booting up echoed in alastairs head and a familiar green screen popped up in front of alastair surprising him greatly before he calmed himself forcefully and saw that a line of words were waiting on the screen for his confirmation. *SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS MET BEGIN ACTIVATION Y/N?* alastair lifted his right hand before pushing the yes option and watched as the screen filled with runes of unknown meaning for a second before being replaced with the familiar image of the vault boy giving a thumbs up appear for a moment before the familiar status screen appeared.
The status screen showed a cartoonish human body with different percentages on each body part namely the head , chest , arms and legs. at the top of the screen it showed his general condition as healthy. looking at the bottom of the screen he saw five other options labeled perk , inventory , skill , quest and character next to the lit up one labeled status. interested alastair clicked on the next tab labeled perks but there was only one listed. (LUMINARY: you are the reincarnation of the luminary. +10 to speech , fitness and small weapons.)
Alastair was slightly familiar with the story of the luminary as almost every one looked up to the luminary as a great hero who defeated the dark one many years ago. he was a bit surprised to discover that he was the reincarnation of such a figure but figured it was probably a joke the unknown being played on him before moving on. the inventory tab showed him what was in his endless bag by dividing it into four different categories being weapons , armor , medicine and miscellaneous. seeing how straight forward the inventory tab was alastair moved on to the next tab.
The skill tab surprised and angered alastair because he could immediately tell that this was the reason he couldn't advance past the novice level in any of the things he studied. there were exactly fifteen skills that covered literally everything that could be learned as well as a numerical value for each one that he guessed had a limit of a hundred points like in fallout 3. alastairs highest skills were those boosted by the luminary perk bringing them to twenty each which he had a sneaking suspicion is the middle of the next level commonly called the apprentice level. all of alastairs other skills however were capped at ten at the moment though.
Moving to the quest tab alastair saw that he only had a single quest that was basically to complete the adulthood ceremony and rewarded him with 200 exp. moving to the last tab alastair saw his character sheet labeled like the following. NAME: Alastair AGE: 16 TITLE: Newbie LEVEL: 1 EXPERIENCE:10/100 EQUIPMENT: tin sword , pot lid , shabby clothes , makeshift necklace MOOD: happy , excited , nervous.
After learning about the systems uses alastair willed the screen to close which actually worked as the screen vanished and his vision returned to normal with the exception of three fallout style bars at the bottom of his vision that he recognized as the health , weapon durability and ammo and compass bars much the same as in fallout. alastair was quite happy with the compass and weapon bars since in reality he wouldn't need to use extra focus to keep track of those things now making his life just that much easier.
Immediately after closing the system screen alastair felt a warm stream of knowledge about the three skills the luminary perk boosted flow into his mind seamlessly letting him tell exactly how to use those skills to their current limit perfectly. if he had to compare the feeling to anything alastair would say it was like using cocaine for the first time as it was an immediate feeling of growing stronger that was definitely addicting if you weren't careful. thankfully the feeling faded just as quickly as it came returning alastair back to normal minus the additional knowledge he acquired.
"Thank goodness you and sandy were here or i wouldn't have know what to do." emma said in relief drawing alastairs attention back to the current time and out of his thoughts. "yes thankfully we could handle them all even though they out numbered us by one." he said with a nod. alastair looked back at the direction the monsters came from with a thoughtful expression. "since it looks like they came from the tor i would say it is safe to think we will have to fight a few more before we reach the top." he said seriously emma looked worried but nodded in agreement before speaking.
"I am no good in a fight but i will try to keep you and sandy healed while you fight." she said seriously. alastair nodded in agreement before the two headed up the path and into the cave entrance at the foot of the tor were they waited for a moment to adjust their eyes and walked further into the cave path that had an upward slope. after walking for a while the two come across a climbable ledge on the right side of the path that upon investigation contained an abandoned storage area with a few old urns and rotten wooden crates that after searching netted alastair some rusted metal and a strange golden coin with a star on it that the system labeled mini medal.
After returning to the path the two got into two more fights with monsters the first was a group of three needlers with gnomish features and a strange mask with cotton balls on both sides and a comically large needle in their hands. that fight was harder as both alastair and sandy got acquainted with the pointy end of those large needles a couple of times resulting in superficial but irritating injuries. that fight gave alastair three exp per needler that at least reassured him he wasn't injured for nothing.
