Chapter 1 - Lia

'Wake up sleepy head' my wolf, Asterin, barked. I jolted awake at her sharp, familiar bark. 'About time. It's your 18th birthday!' Asterin cheerfully howled. I winced at her obnoxious cheerfulness so early in the morning. I yawned and wiped my eyes tiredly. "It's not that big of a deal" I mumbled. Asterin sniffed in defiance. 'Speak for yourself, I plan on making it a big deal.' I rolled my eyes at my wolf's ego. I slowly got out of my white, fluffy bed. I stretched the sleep out of my limbs before trudging to the bathroom to get ready. I settled on a pair of black jeans with a white sweater. My hair was short, a pixie cut to be exact. It was bright blonde and ended right above my ears. I styled it to the side and curled it. My dark brown eyes stared back at me as I stared at myself in the mirror. I wasn't pretty but I wasn't super ugly either. I was average. I then left my bedroom to leave for school. Hopefully I can train after school, I thought eagerly. I was on the road to become a pack warrior. Once I graduated high school, I could become a fully fledged warrior and serve my pack. That's why I didn't really want or need a mate. My mate would just hold me back from being a great warrior. 'You say that now, but just wait until you actually meet him' Asterin muttered. I blocked her out immediately. I didn't need to listen to her rave about a mate. "Have a good day at school sweetie!" Mom yelled as I left the house. I didn't respond as I got into my car and pulled out of the driveway. My birthday was never really a big deal in my family. They knew I didn't care for it, so they never bothered to say happy birthday. It was nice. Before long I arrived at the school and entered the prison-looking building. That's when Asterin starting whining. "What is it?" I muttered under my breath. She continued to squirm around and pace in my mind. ' I don't know. Someone is near. Maybe it's mate.' My breath quickened for a bit. I decided to not say anything to her. I already made my decision. Asterin growled and whined at my decision. Though she didn't say anything, knowing that she wouldn't be able to change my mind. But that was when I smelled it. Mint and chocolate. The smell wafted through the hallways. Asterin howled in delight. It was the smell of my mate. I slowly backed up to the front doors without looking away from the crowd of students. Which one was my mate? It was hard to tell. I turned and stood at the front doors with my back to the crowd. Right before I grabbed the door handle to leave, a soft hand grabbed mine. The skin was a smooth copper color. The smell of mint and chocolate erupted around me. My mate. I slowly tilted my head back to look at him. He was already grinning with delight. He had long, dark brown that was pulled up into a man bun. His green eyes were twinkling in the sunlight. "Hello little one" He smirked. 'Mate!' Asterin whimpered with happiness. My reaction was quite the opposite of hers. I whipped my body around and slammed open the front door. Before my mate could even register what would happen, I slammed the door behind me and sprinted towards the parking lot. But he was too fast. I barely made it to my car before I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist and pull me back. "Let me go!" I gasped in fury. My mate chuckled and twisted me around so I was facing him. "Come now little mate, is that anyway to talk to the love of your life?" He smirked. I groaned in annoyance and squirmed in his grip. "Love of your life?? Give me a break" I snarled. He laughed and threw his head back. "Wow you're a feisty one" He purred. Asterin purred right back. 'I can feel his wolf. He wants us!' She said. I blocked her out before shoving him with all my might and I finally was able to get out of his grip. He simply took a step back to get a full look at me. His eyes roamed my body up and down before settling on my face. I crossed my arms self-consciously over my chest and glared daggers at him. "What's your name mate" He asked. I lifted my chin. "Lia," I responded. His grin grew bigger. "Lia" He murmured. He put his hands in his pockets and tilted his head. "My name is Grey." That was when I smirked. "Ok. I, Lia, reje-" A ferocious growl cut me off. Next thing I knew I was in Grey's want embrace. "Don't you dare reject me little one" He snarled. I stiffened in his grasp, knowing that I screwed up. I knew then why the name Grey sounded so familiar. He was Alpha Grey of the Bloodfang pack. I just tried to reject an Alpha.
