Thom didn't realize that his long adventure since this morning nonstop, ignoring his meal, and letting the rain-wet his wound was enough to cause horrible pain all over his body. His body's temperature rose significantly, which was caused by his opened wound getting inflamed although the wound itself shrunk much compared to the first time he was found by the bank of the river.
It was just the wound on his sole remained wet. Thom hardly stayed still, he kept moving here and there no matter how people see him walking limply. He helped that simple family-run errands to survive, the family who has given him a second life. Thom did things he could possibly do to lead their life daily, such as washing up the dishes, sweeping the floor, mopping it, including helping the father when he got a part-time job as a laborer in that neighborhood. Thom enjoyed that simple life. That is why his wound could not get better soon.
