As I pondered her absence, Mathias stepped into the center of the grand hall, his voice cutting through the lively chatter. "The princess isn't feeling well and has retired early from the banquet. There is no cause for concern; she will recover soon. Please continue enjoying the night."
Randall snorted beside me, his eyes narrowing at Mathias. "He seems rather pleased for someone with an ailing daughter."
He muttered under his breath.
"Indeed…"
Lorenzo muttered, with a frown.
And they were right. Mathias was grinning like a fool, as if he had just won some great victory. He looked far too triumphant, too satisfied for a father whose daughter had just fallen ill.
